I hope Wattydog is feeling more comfortable soon. Sending a hug @Slinky, the loss is so hard, we have to remember all the joy they brought to us7

Thanks all. Grief is the price we pay for love. We loved her so much.

Wattydog thanks you for all your good wishes. He is struggling with steps, and I noticed having a poop he was not quite right so I think he may have actually hurt his back. Possibly in an attempt to pull up a tree rather than play with more sensible sized sticks. He is however not letting it get him down. He is as irrepressible as ever although tired, very tired. It is so quiet with him sleeping. He rarely ever sleeps when I'm about and he has missed many many barking opportunities. Hopefully he will be much better in a few days time.
@Slinky I am so sorry to read that. The holes they leave in our hearts are so hard. Letting a much loved pet go is so hard, the pain of missing them so much. Sending love.

Wattydog seems much improved with rest and the painkillers and no walks yesterday or today and probably none tomorrow. I'm not sure he understand why no walks but he isn't quite right and I'm taking a firm line on no walks although allowing pottering around the garden and driveways and small orchard. Most Handsome still no better but no worse either and he is still bright and cheerful confined to his stable.
The sun shone this morning and Charming Cob and I had a lovely quick before work potter up the lane and back . Everything seems better when the sun shines
The Emergency Fund chat on another diary has been really helpful in sorting my thought process. I already have the "welfare" fund for the animals health, I need a "house" emergency fund to cover fixings and unexpected repairs. This also will cover the car and then I need a "Futures Emergency Fund" to keep me going in at a future time. I'm self employed so this needs to cover 12 months expenses.
So to update: The house emergency fund stands at £104 but should get a boost at the end of Feb as there should be an excess in the bills account. I am hoping I can cover Most Handsome's xrays and WattyDog vet bill without touching the welfare fund. The Emergency Fund could cover 1 months expenses so far so 1/12
Given everything I paid out and went through last year I consider this all rather wonderful. Looking at it like this has really helped me feel very well off rather than struggling and given me real tangible goals.

I have an overall emergency category but house maintenance, car servicing etc are categories on their own. Houses will need maintenance, cars will need servicing, white goods will need to be replaced etc so they are known categories even if its a guesstimate what you put in each month for the first year or two. I class emergency fund as genuine ooh didn't see that coming emergency.
Above is only for interest sake, you do it how it makes sense to you of course.
Glad its been sunny and your furry family members all appear to be going in the right direction

Once you have your emergency fund you will be amazed at how much less of an emergency any emergency actually seems.

@Slinky so sorry to hear this ... Always awful to lose a pet
Watty - as you know my parents have had a fair few GS so at some point you might want to think about putting him on Umove or some similar arthritus /joint mobility for dog tablets.. hopefully this is just a strain..
Glad your EF is managing ok with all these extra expenses.
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks @daisy_1571 I totally agree that those are scheduled expenses but from a starting point of zero i think just the three funds for now and the ability to clear my credit card although eventually I can move to proper budgeting (animal and vet funds permitting).
@badmemory you are probably right. Emergencies never seemed to happen when i had all those savings but now I am MF I do realise that just about anything would count as an emergency right now until the funds get built up.
On the bright side I am MF which is a blessing.
WattyDog continues to improve, but I have noticed the odd limp from time to time so a joint supplement would be a good idea @LadyWithAPlan and it is allowed for shopping so thank you for the suggestion.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Busy day, the virtual tech PA has all the info to start work, the first two business newsletters are written and my new computer IT support geeks are on board. Now this is a lot of business expense but worth it as I now don't need to worry about getting these areas under control and also it is a relief not to be doing everything myself.
Most Handsome still confined to his stable but I rode Charming Cob this morning (just a quick walk around the village) and got soaked. New fleece lined waterproof trousers now being worn and they were such a great buy. I've been in and out and remained dry.
Yesterday the VNM came round with a Rose Bush as a Valentines Gift. I was so touched by that, it will go in the garden where there a bed I was renovating so I'm delighted. He did ask if I wanted to go out this evening but I declined on the basis everywhere will be busy with the day and not coping with the busyness of it all and honestly I'm as happy staying in and he seemed happy enough with that.
I love Valentines Day as, for me, it reminds me the birds will start nesting, my hedges need to have been cut by now and spring is just around the corner. That all means so much more to me than a dinner out, yes i enjoy his company but I rode this morning and told the Charming Cob spring was nearly here as we splashed through puddles and it is nearly 5 pm and not yet fully dark. I've heard birdsong today too. That all makes a great Valentines DayMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
