Watty's Awakening

Humdinger1 said:Love what you're doing with the significant decs @Watty1! Why do I picture Wattydog as a Richard Scary illustration? Large dog crammed into mini, quite possibly driving. The way you are defining your life and laying PPH to rest is inspiring. I wonder if any friend who bumps into him occasionally might mention that he's known as this and let him attempt to work out what it means. We don't want to get bogged down in revenge scenarios with the incompetent and irrelevant; but on the other hand, could this be the perfect illustration of the saying that comedy equals tragedy plus time? You are utterly wonderful; do you know this? Love Humdinger xx
I love that saying "comedy equals tragedy plus time" I had not heard it before, but, yes, I think it probably does in this case.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

The fencing has been repaired. Yay! It took the two chaps 1 day instead of the 2 they thought initially so that was £460 for the job. I'm so happy. Sadly I have lost the connectors for the electric fencing and this morning the naughty Fell Pony proved to the others that the electric fencing no longer works (it had to be disconnected for the post and rail to go back up) and so mayhem followed. The weekend's job is to sort out the electric fencing!
Unfortunately in the last 48 hours someone has driven into the back gate however and a quick google reveals that a replacement is likely to be around £500 so the saving has soon been swallowed. I think the gate can be braced to keep it operational (first on the VNM's list of jobs to do) and in the new year I will research options for a new five bar gate. (Of course no one has left a note but whoever drove into that would have heard it crack as the wood is broken right through). I have been wondering about moving the gate anyway so this sort of forces that issue. I will think on it.
Friends have been here since Monday and I have had the most fabulous time. A night in a lovely hotel, a couple of days at the London Horse Show, evenings in with real paella, wine and much laughter. (One of them is Spanish and refuses to trust English ingredients brings all that is needed to make paella except the chicken and the asparagus - we don't have seafood as one of the group is allergic). I have spent way more than I had so have popped it on my credit card for now, and reflecting this morning I have decided from January I will start a "savings" account for fun as last 2 years I have been caught with bigger spends than anticipated in December. So I am going to open an account and aim to save into each month then buying tickets and nights out will come out of that over the year but if I budget right I will have enough for the night in a hotel, the London Horse Show's obligatory bottle of champagne and so on in December too. This feels a very good move, on lots of levels but mainly that I recognise I have rebuilt enough of a life to want to budget for nights away, tickets for events out and so on. A life to be enjoyed.
It was nice to share my house with friends, both enjoyed the guest rooms and said how comfortable they were which was great and both slept well too. They had last seen the house when PPH was being difficult and the both commentated how different everything was/is.
Given how nice life is just now, the broken back gate does not seem to be such an issue especially as the replacement can be funded by the money saved on the fencing.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Everything in that post is brilliant and heartwarming Watty and I am very pleased for you, and for the horses that they got to sneak in a bit of horsey mayhem 😊😁
While boo to whoever drove into the gate not leaving a note, sounds like its done you a favour decision making-wise, and the universe is obviously smiling on you by providing the funds to sort it with no skin off your nose 🥂5 -

I also need a proper Xmas entertaining fund for next XmasDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
