I have some of these and I just love them flickering away
And I got 2 of these on offer and again I just love them. If you go up close you can see they aren't metal plus they aren't as tall as Victorian ones would be but they fit the garden proportionally.
Looking out at my garden is pleasing to see for me and mr d.
Its another way you are reclaiming your own space. Enjoy your rock lights

Next door popped around late yesterday. The laurel hedge that they have is in places 18 feet tall and is awful. I've been trimming my side and ignore it because they are lovely neighbours to have. Funny thing is they were not lovely neighbours until I left the ex then they have been supportive, charming and lovely. Anyway back to the hedge, she had it trimmed yesterday. Well the bit nearest my actual house. So when she came round I thanked her and said it made a huge difference to the light and I was appreciative. I'd been meaning to text that just had not got to it. To my surprise she then said she had had a tree surgeon round because she hated that the hedge was out of control, it was unmanageable for them and in March the whole lot is being cut to a sensible height so in future her husband can trim it. She then asked what I wanted to do about a huge conifer that was on my land, I explained it was actually on hers but I had netted around it and she was welcome to have a look but if she wanted to have it down I would pay half.
I took her out, showed her it was on her land and said the offer for half was good and she should ask her man for a price and if he didn't want to do it I knew a tree surgeon who might. What a huge win! The conifer is large and blocks a lot of light.
We then discussed the Ash Tree and after a lot of laughter that a "townie" might take it down, I got her to agree that we should leave the Ash Tree. It might eventually have to come down but it is currently a healthy Ash and although there is die back in the area this one seems to have survived so we should leave it. I knew she was hoping I would agree to take it down but it is very pretty from my bedroom window and bought me a lot of comfort during the last years of my relationship. When things were really rough I would lie in bed and watch the patterns of the branches through the window and feel peace so until the tree has to come down I want it to stay. It is not my call as it is on her land and I'm happy to pay to have the conifer down but the Ash stays in my book and I'm fairly sure they will leave it now.
A huge win! Yes it will cost me to have the conifer down and cynical me is fairly sure I will pay most of it but the improvement to the garden will be worth it. Very happy.

That's a huge win on the trees, and you get to keep the good relationships with the nice neighbours.
We have a lovely ash tree too and as long as it's healthy, it stays! Like you, we have ash die back in the area but this one is okay so far.
Are you going to dry the wood from the conifer? It could be fuel for the winter after next.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I've read somewhere that conifers aren't good for burning. Leave a lot of sticky stuff to cause deposits in your chimney.
