Some great ideas on here.  Thank you all.   Will try Marketplace to sell the old switches and sockets, that is a great idea.

The new light for the landing arrived and I love it. £55 from Dunelm - but - it hangs too low to be where the old one was.    I suggested that we put a hook up and fit the lamp then loop the chain so it hangs from the hook (it is a hurricane lamp and having stood on a chair to explain what I had in mind it did look lovely).  The problem being that it seems to be about half a day's work as someone needs to lift the loft boarding and look for a joist to screw the hook into.  It all sounded a bit much so I decided to send it back as I was putting it in the "frivolous" spends category which I am trying to avoid.  However the VNM looked at it, asked if I loved it (which I did) and said he too thought it would look fabulous in space so I should just keep the light and one day this year when he has a day free he will do hang it.

I was really moved by that.   So kind.  He has realised I don't like presents and said he would prefer to gift me some time to help out in that case.   He really is a star.

A slightly whimsical post that I know some of you will "get".   I was standing on the landing and looking into the stair space which has had all the wood fixings taken of the walls and all the colour removed and is now just one drop of pure white that arches over the sloping ceiling into the landing and I felt at peace.  The house is becoming a new house just like I am becoming a new me.

A few mins later in the kitchen I opened the cutlery drawer.  Yesterday I had removed all the cutlery that reminded me of the ex.   It was stuff he bought from his house when we first moved in together.  It was all really nice stuff but I just looked at it and thought of him and the mess everything became so I bagged it all up to go to the charity shop. I now own just 3 forks, 3 knifes and 6 spoons but again the same feeling of peace.   It is as if the tendrils of him are being removed.    There is a way to go emotionally but I hope that by removing the physical presence the emotional will have space to heal too.

So happy watty, through my tears!  I think this is what we all wished we could fast forward you to! Im sure there will still be ups and downs but this is so lovely to read.

Reminds me of when I ran away and moved into a shared house. Every day I got home before anybody else and I remember standing in the kitchen there and thinking “What will I have to eat?” “OH! I can have ANYTHING I want!!” (he was very controlling about food amongst a myriad of other stuff …). That euphoria lasted about two weeks and I still remember it now - an amazing, tangible piece of freedom 😊

I was euphoric when I decided to divorce too. I've spent over 2 years decluttering and getting rid of reminders and my Ex was nothing like yours - and yet I still saw some of the things as toxic clutter.

I'm glad you are reclaiming your space and finding your happy. Really thrilled to that VNM is doing practical things to help you.

I left my marriage and moved into my own place 5 years ago this month. I am still decluttering and reclaiming my mind but still find it hard to do things because I want to without getting approval.
