I got the carpets shampooed: they look better but not right yet, but it's on hold till I get another bottle of carpet shampoo. Meanwhile the house is a tip, with the hall full of stuff that doesn't belong there, and the kitchen not much better. The rinsed out hose from the shampoo-er is in the bath to drain and the dining table is covered in receipts that I've not yet processed. However, it smells nice as the carpet shampoo always does.
I asked about the job advert and sadly it's already gone to someone (that will teach me to look at the adverts more often), but she told me there's a ten hour post going. However, when I think about it, that would tie me in to fewer hours than I often get as relief.
The weather was foul earlier: not cold but very wet and dark. It was actually better after work when I walked to the supermarket on my way home. I'd made pasta in sauce with veggie sausages but only had time to eat the sausages and I didn't want to risk food poisoning from the gone-cold pasta so I decided to treat myself and the result was dinner of watermelon and custard doughnuts! I also bought short-dated milk that should have been okay for the evening but it wasn't so I've that to return (another to add to my errands, though I've abandoned the prospect of complaining about the member of staff in Sains. I can't bring myself to make trouble for him when he thought he was being helpful). I've yet to get round to taking my faulty debit card back, either: I wanted to make sure I had it for shopping last weekend. It's limping along but another supermarket till couldn't read it today.
The money for the phone has been transferred to A, but I've now got to remember to pay the current account from the savings account.

I'm worn out this evening! I managed to get a lot of laundry done and onto the line before going out this morning. I returned the milk I bought yesterday and got a refund as it was off, then got down to the church fairly late to do some cleaning. That took till about one thirty, when I met up with someone to do the 'travelling Nativity' exchange. We stayed talking for ages so I didn't get home till just in time to change into work clothes and head out again. However, the chat was worthwhile and I got groceries on the way home with L1dl discount coupons, then I got all the laundry in and while it wasn't quite dry, it was pretty good.
This evening turned really stormy, though not cold. It's still blowing gustily out there and it's rained quite hard but I know we are much more sheltered than some and Storm Darragh hasn't even hit yet. I've made up flasks of hot water, charged the phone and power bank and put a candle and matches where I can easily reach them. I know I may not need them but better safe than sorry.
I've also ordered a top that DD and I saw on our Christmas shopping day. It wasn't available in store in either of our sizes but it's still in my size online. Just a plain brown crew neck long-sleeved tee, but I wear long sleeved tees most days so if it's suitable at all, I will probably wear it a lot.

And I just remembered to pay off my credit card - all outstanding transactions, apart from the one I've just made for the tee shirt, are now accounted for. I thought the bank might be a bit suspicious seeing as I just transferred the money for the phone last night, but thankfully, not.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

What a stormy day! I managed to persuade DH not to travel, but I'm glad I braved the short walk into town to pass on the Nativity set. I had a really interesting chat with the new 'keeper', and a very nice gingerbread latte.
On the way home I spent £1.50 on a charity shop book, ££1 on toothpaste, £2.99 on a spare bottle of carpet shampoo in case I get carried away cleaning) and £6 on craft supplies towards making Christmas presents.
Since then I've not done anything useful at all so here I am to be accountable. I'll post again when I can make some claim to productivity.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

6 pm update: time spent browsing social media, but also made the bed (I was in a hurry this morning, then forgot), put away dried laundry, unpacked the dishwasher and watered the houseplants. I can tell I'm putting off painting that doorframe!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

It is much better not to make the bed but to throw the covers back & let it air. My excuse & I am sticking to it.

We tend to air the bed from 30 mins on weekdays to 2 hours on weekends and then make it. I don't feel I've woken up until the bedroom is tidy & OH likes to have his afternoon nap on top of the duvet rather than under it! I also like to spray the fitted sheet with a herbal concoction (rosemary or marjoram) and the pillows with a sleepy time spray (lavender or calendula). This morning however I could have easily stayed under the covers all day - it was grey and damp and the wind was noisy.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! My husband, Mr E, reckons mornings are dangerous at the best of times, and weekend mornings especially high-risk. He likes to stay safely in bed until all danger has passed, about midday...!
We throw the covers back on getting up and then at some point in the morning when I get going with the housework, I open all the windows (not today!!) for at least 3 minutes in even the coldest weather, and then close them tight, and at that point I make the bed, and re-fill the stone pig and put that in so that mattress has the chance to air, but then is warmed up slowly all afternoon so it's cosy for later.2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
