It is much better not to make the bed but to throw the covers back & let it air.  My excuse & I am sticking to it.
Actually this is where I started! :D I air the bed as I get out, but then I went downstairs and didn't really go back in all day, so I have a well-aired bed but it was messy. Now the bed is neat and everywhere else is messy...

We tend to air the bed from 30 mins on weekdays to 2 hours on weekends and then make it.  I don't feel I've woken up until the bedroom is tidy & OH likes to have his afternoon nap on top of the duvet rather than under it!  I also like to spray the fitted sheet with a herbal concoction (rosemary or marjoram) and the pillows with a sleepy time spray (lavender or calendula).  This morning however I could have easily stayed under the covers all day - it was grey and damp and the wind was noisy.
Ooh, I couldn't sleep on top of the duvet, monsters might get me! Though apparently I often kick it off in my sleep.

This is the sort of day when I used to be glad of working nights. It was so nice to get into bed at 8 am and know I didn't have to get out till the children got in from school!

My husband, Mr E, reckons mornings are dangerous at the best of times, and weekend mornings especially high-risk. He likes to stay safely in bed until all danger has passed, about midday...! :)

We throw the covers back on getting up and then at some point in the morning when I get going with the housework, I open all the windows (not today!!) for at least 3 minutes in even the coldest weather, and then close them tight, and at that point I make the bed, and re-fill the stone pig and put that in so that mattress has the chance to air, but then is warmed up slowly all afternoon so it's cosy for later.
I must remember that mornings are dangerous. It's a better explanation that 'I simply take a few hours to wake up'.

I'm another who likes to throw the window open. It's open all day if the weather is nice but today I didn't even open the bedroom curtains. I believe more and more that I belong in the fresh air, and being between the moors and the Dales, we do quite well for it. :) Today, however, was the wrong type of fresh air. :D

Saturday was busy at first, then quiet. After the late afternoon nudge to self, I did the ironing and had a go at using the new glass paints but I'm disappointed. They are opaque not translucent, and it's really hard to get an even distribution as the shiny surface doesn't allow it to grip. I wonder if it needs two coats? It's actually a plastic I was looking to paint so perhaps glass paint is the wrong thing. I should look it up.

I've opened the deliveries that arrived during the week and put things in the right piles. Both the Secret Santa gifts are here and so is the outfit for the April baby and my makeup items. The lid of one cracked in the post so I'll leave feedback that the packing could have been better, but I don't think it's worth sending back - the lids always break down eventually on powder.

Procrastination beat me when it came to painting the door frame. It can stay with two coats and I won't have to worry about paint on clothes or coping with the smell (even with low VOCs it seems to affect me). No further carpet shampooing happened, either and the machinery is packed up again. The dishes are washed and I had some of the yogurt made last week for tea with fruit. It's the most amazingly thick yogurt I've ever done, probably because I used a high-whey milk and a litre of whey came out of 2 litres of milk. You can slice it like a rather firm soft cheese! It tastes okay with the fruit and some very runny strawberry jam I found in the cupboard. I made the jam ages ago so I'm surprised it's still okay, but it was nice.

Storm Darragh is still very much here for another 12 hours or so. North Yorkshire Weather Updates on FB is full of pictures of trees across roads, and more recently, floods. I am wondering how the emergency services are doing in all this, and also thinking the Council's emergency planning team will probably be out in it at some point - they plan for all sorts, from floods to transport accidents to acts of war and there will be a lot to sort out over coming days.

The rain stopped for a while but it's still gusty here. DH is probably on his way home, but is trying not to outrun the wind so he's stopping somewhere for lunch. Meanwhile I listened to the service on Youtube, realised our heating wasn't coming on (it's not that cold but after a while I can feel it) so I found a video on repressuring the boiler, which has done the trick. Thankfully. I've also put away the ironing now that it's aired. That doesn't make the bouse tidy, but at least it's less untidy. I've also emptied bins and have recycling to put out, but first it's time for lunch.

DH arrived at lunchtime just after a terrific downpour. It's all quiet now but the wind was still gusty this afternoon. We decided on a local walk just the get some exercise though he'd been walking on the beach this morning.

We stayed in town to avoid mud and floods and suddenly remembered the Christmas Tree festival in one of the local churches. Some organisations we're involved with had decorated trees there and DGD had made a decoration for one of the trees so we decided to go. There were around 60 trees and it was all very pretty. DGD's decoration was duly found (and one I'd made while helping with Toddlers!) and photographed, and we met a few people we knew. I hadn't realised there was a carol service afterwards, but we decided to stay for that (and congratulated ourselves for spontaneity) which was really nice too. It's a very old, traditional building and was lit by the trees and one of those light displays that you usually see projected onto the fronts of houses: green lights drifting upwards and bursting. That doesn't sound very reverent but it was beautiful and relaxing.

They had a vote for the best tree and the winner was one dressed as a red dragon.

Back at home, it was nearly tea time and DH made us a chicken and ham pie to use up some ingredients.

This evening I've mended a sock and a coat, only to discover the coat needs a new zip, which will be a new challenge for me but I'm not going to waste this evening's work but ditching it! It must be possible, other people can do it.

    you tube is your friend
Absolutely - though also one of those friendships where you end up hanging out all afternoon and not getting much useful done! I must get round to looking up wisdom about use of glass paint, but in fact I found out the solution for the zip late last night somewhere on the internet (pliers to close the sides of the slider a fraction of a millimetre) and the coat is declared wearable this morning.

I'm proud of that - the coat is mostly good now: no need to replace for some time to come, barring accidents.

Today is starting with blue skies and rather weak-looking sunshine, but at least it's sunshine. Not sun, from where I'm sitting: it's rising so far south now that it doesn't come in this window, but I'll take the pale gold light on the garden as a good sign.

Here's the to do list, and I'll see how far I get:
    • wash hair
    • put laundry in to wash
    • tidy dining table
    • make dinner
    • fill bird feeders
    • check notes for tomorrow
    • make sure I have thing ready for looking after the girls tomorrow and F the day after
    • possibly return library book
    • pay off credit card if latest payment has gone through
    • log any more receipts that come to light (I did a big batch yesterday)
    • tidy kitchen
    • wash kitchen floor
    • clean bathroom
    • transfer phone money from savings (just paying current account back)
    • pot up some of the remaining bulbs - the ones I did a few weeks ago are tall and in bud and it would be sad not to do the others
    • look over presents bought so far and plan stocking fillers

I'm rather overwhelmed by the list, which I was carrying in my head instead of checking back, so here I am to look at the real thing:

    • wash hair - done
    • put laundry in to wash - done
    • tidy dining table - started
    • make dinner - got something out of the freezer, does that count?
    • fill bird feeders - done
    • check notes for tomorrow
    • make sure I have things ready for looking after the girls tomorrow and F the day after
    • possibly return library book
    • pay off credit card if latest payment has gone through - very annoyingly, the payment I made and their automatic deduction as it I hadn't paid and the payment for the item I bought at the weekend are all showing as pending. I think I need to set the automatic reminders for a week before the automatic deduction, as it doesn't take into account weekends. I hope this doesn't mean they end up charging me interest, but it actually leave £12.50 in the account that doesn't need to be there.
    • log any more receipts that come to light (I did a big batch yesterday)
    • tidy kitchen - started
    • wash kitchen floor
    • clean bathroom
    • transfer phone money from savings (just paying current account back)
    • pot up some of the remaining bulbs - the ones I did a few weeks ago are tall and in bud and it would be sad not to do the others
    • look over presents bought so far and plan stocking fillers
Two small bits of sewing have been done and are put away. I've also done the hand washing, put all the washing on the line and eventually moved it to the airer. Crumbs, it's cold out. Actually it's 8 degrees but feels like minus 1. That prompted me to feed the birds and bin the fat balls they don't like and which have gone disgusting and would surely make them ill.

I've also swapped messages about and with a Wednesday client and with A about my new phone, which I'll collect tomorrow.

Teatime now, then work. DH is getting the milk for me so I don't need to factor that in.
