@popthekettleon - great haul, exactly the kind of thing I wear when out and about on autumnal days! We have too few it seems, winter arrives far too soon.
@Miró - I really liked Dingwall when I visited. IIRC there is a huge Tesco in the vicinity? I remember visiting the chazzers there and although didn't come back with much, enjoyed browsing and chatting. One of the nuggets that stayed with me from that day is that the wealth in Dingwall comes from land and farming, images of big red Highlanders spring to mind.

Rant mode! ScotRail are rubbish. Treated ourselves to First Class rail travel on this trip. Our reserved seats coming home had people sitting in them who refused to move! No staff around of course. Ended up sitting miles apart & travelling backwards🤢* No promised complimentary refreshments either on a 3.5hr journey…..aaargghh!* and I was sitting opposite a woman with keyboard clicks switched on on her ipad 😡7 -
Oh Yeurgh @Miró that travelling backwards sounds nasty! I jolly well hope you manage to get some compensation out of the blighters if only for the missing refreshments.
Glad to hear about the Highland coos and delectable patisserie though.
Note made about keyboard click etiquette too, always good to know things before you've given offence.
I poked my nose into my favourite BHF shop yesterday and snapped up a copy of this book for £2 which is one I've been wanting to find for a while so I'm all set for bedtime reading now.
Sorry for the enormous photo I still can't adjust the size at all on this site, don't know why.

That's really not good service @Miró. Have you complained? If you paid to reserve the seats, surely a bit of a refund is due. We found Scotrail's service peculiar - a rerouted train insisted we had to go via somewhere off our route (Berwick, I think) but actually went directly to the place we wanted to go to, with no sign of the expected changing trains either. Odd.
Not good that you had to travel backwards, either, I know some people find that makes them feel unwell... and once you notice keyboard clicks... argh!
We had a lovely afternoon in Helmsley today: the pop-up charity shop where DH found me the cashmere jumper is still there. No cashmere today but DH got a Jack Wills tee shirt for £1. That shop is due to close in the next few weeks as the lease comes to an end but they've raised several thousand for charity as everything was voluntary, including use of the premises.
In the Oxfam further down the street we had a bit of a book bonanza, which are going into our respective Christmas stockings. That includes four by one of my favourite authors at £1.99 each.
The Walled Garden also had a donations box for their produce, so in exchange for a contribution we have a bag of apples and some iris rhizomes. Perfect.

Sorry about your horrible experience on the train. Under such circumstances its wise to get the phone out to capture some video evidence of seat occupancy to support you case. The mere act of doing so might have encouraged your human cuckoos to do the decent thing and rethink their finders-keeper mentality. No man is worth crawling on this earth.

@goldfinches - there is something about the covers of Penguin books that I find so comforting. Maybe its the thought of a soft spine? Even the sight of a cooked chicken (anathema to a committed vegetarian) doesn't detract.

Meanwhile the Tesco book shelf (suggested 50p a book for charity) revealed a gem yesterday. Tall Tales Test Match Special by Agnew and Tufnell. Perfect extra for himself as he always listens to the test matches and complains that they aren't shown on BBC. Decision now is does he get it for his birthday or Christmas? Christmas I think as there's a book he wants (the latest Osman murder mystery) for his birthday that will need to be bought new in the next week.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
