I'm sure the excuses were lined up... BoE and Fed manipulation is just kicking the can down the road, inflation figures are being manipulated, market just hasn't woken up to the recession yet, China is biding its time, etc etc.Swipe said:

I predict volatility. Prices will go up and down. Sounds obvious, but trade the volatility and keep buying the dips.Happy 2024!Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter2

People often assert that the economy and the stock market are distinct entities, yet there exists an intricate connection between a stagnant economy and the equity market. Ultimately, the crucial factor for stocks is their earnings / profits, while economic growth is of primary importance for the broader economy.Baldeagle095 said:How does the flatlining UK economy affect equity? Is this already built in to the markets? An example of this complex relationship is when the economy is in stagnation the businesses (e.g., stocks) may face challenges such as reduced consumer spending, which may directly translate to limited corporate revenue and profit growth. In a stagnating economy, investors may be more risk-averse, opting for safer assets or investments outside the equity market.

Thread title is 2024, when the next government gets in, probably towards the end of 2024 we can then have a thread for predictions for 2025, in which case mine will probably be "I predict the government will pretend taxes are down while most will pay more taxes.", if we get a new party in power, or "I predict the government will try another con job pretending taxes are down while most will pay more taxes." fi the current bunch of incompetents scrape a win.boingy said:
