Snacks Tunnocks teacake (5 syns), sugar free jelly with berries and FF yoghurt (1/2 syn)

  • Interested in getting the Skinny caramel syrup. Do I need to go for the zero calorie one, and does it have a very artificial taste? Or do I go for a non zero calorie for a Syn or 2?

    Evening everyone,

@Longwalker - the ostrich was like a very tender steak - cooks in 3-4 minutes in the griddle pan with the sachet of BBQ sauce - Free food from Aldi.

Some very wise words about group being a kind of therapy. I've long compared it to mutual aid the same as AA or CA as it's supportive and celebratory with (hopefully) no judgement.

Dinner was easy chicken curry using leftover roast lamb from yesterday(!) Was lush.

Sorry for the short post - very tired today as went to bed at 11pm to the sound of chainsaws removing fallen trees in the road behind ours. Hope everyone is managing to stay safe xx

I've only bought sugar free caramel syrup @NornironRose. I used to have it on my porridge but have since switched to fruit. It didn’t taste of sweetener to me, just sweet but I don't think I can tell the difference. Maybe someone else has tasted both. 🤔

I saw pea shoots in M&S today @MrsPorridge. I was surprised they were with the salad stuff. I expected them to be like sugar snaps or mange tout. Will definitely try them next time leaves are needed.

Saved half a syn! 🤣 That's because I realised the spread DH put in my eggs is the light version. 😁

  • @maman , alcohol abuse/addiction, its a weird thing. No one can decide whether is really is an illness or learned behaviour , theres two or three camps

Was I an alcoholic from birth? Was I destined to have a problem with alcoholism the minute I picked up my first drink? Was I born with a missing switch? Or did I learn from the adults around me that a drink solves everything? Did the not being able to stop once I started imprinted on me from birth, or did the dependency on alcohol come about because of the habits I developed around alcohol?

Of course I wasnt an alcoholic , I never drank before 4:30. I could go all day, do a days work, didnt have a bottle in the desk drawer or tucked in behind the loo. I didnt hide bottles in hedges :)

My drinking was out of a habit that turned to dependancy . The habit fuelled the dependancy. The habit of popping in for a drink after work, then the one drink turning to two and then eventually not leaving till closing time, or leaving earlier, and picking up a bottle to carry on at home. Remember when pubs were first allowed to open all day, I was in the pub from 11 till 11 and then had to go the next day for a cure and did another 12 hour session

So that was then and I stayed away from it for 12 years, even worked in a pub and never touched a drop, until the day I did, and whilst at first it was just a drink here and there, it soon crept in again. Rather like losing the weight, keeping it off for months or years, and then introducing the habit back

For me its a fix. It fixes everything. bad day in work? Have a drink. Row with husband - have a drink. Mum being a PITA - have a drink. Celebrate - have a drink. Commiserate - have a drink. Lonely, sad, depressed - have a drink. so very much the same as someone who says they comfort eat. A habit, a habit that is comforting

We all know a drink solves nothing same as we know a bar of chocolate doesn't but to someone caught into that addiction you may as well talk to a wall. The person using chocolate as the placebo is just going to get fatter and slowly bring themselves to ill health  The person using alcohol, will get fat, then get skinny ( as organs start struggling ) and will die a lot sooner then they should

And funnily enough, both alcohol and chocolate both work on the same pleasure receptors of the brain

So yes the treatments for both "addictions" are so very very similar . Work out the triggers , break the habits, learn to live a life with all its mess without picking up

    Interesting @Longwalker
With all the upset we had at Christmas I could quite easily see how it could become a habit very quickly. A wee tipple took the edge off.

  • Thanks for that @coxy11 . Hope you get a better night tonight. Storm died here at 3am, been a wet old day though and the wind is picking up again

@maman, you can grow your own pea shoots. Remember primary school growing peas on blotting paper? Thats all they are, small pea plants. So a wee dish, some sort of wadding, sprinkle over the peas and water . Farmer here grows them for animal feed, I just pop over with a pair of scissors and help myself :)

Had a good day SW wise today. Had yoghurt, blueberries and oat bran for breakfast @10, worked 12 - 4 - yes I had a scone, no butter or jam, was just picking at it, then home to a big plate of salad and a jacket spud with salt and sugar free beans ( bloody revolting had to add Worcestershire sauce and loads of pepper) and a fine grating of some excellent parmesan

Is anyone watching the Micheal Moseley series on C4? Tonights one was a right eye opener for the couple on it.

    Morning all,

Thanks for your posts @Longwalker. I watched Michael Mosley last week as I have some of the issues he covered (DS1 is an ED doc and he always instils plenty water, healthy food and exercise is key if I happen to moan). I've written myself a note to catch last night's episode.

I found ostrich burgers! @Coxy11 much to DS2's delight. I hope he likes them after all the travelling around to get them 🤣

The chat about pea shoots, I bought a bag in Morrisons at the weekend - £1.50. They are lovely and have garlic shoots too and make a nice change from lettuce with salad but at that price won't be buying every week so maybe give growing some a go (now that I'll be a lady of leisure soon 😁).

    Today's food:
B - bacon roll, brown sauce 1 syn
L - veggie omelette with pickles
D - chilli salmon, chips, roasted veg

Hope you all have a smashing day!

I watched the Michael Moseley programme too @Longwalker. It was quite scary to hear how the couple in their early thirties were wrecking their health (and bank balance) with all the junk they were eating. ☹️ It did prove that healthy eating can reverse that too which was positive. 👍

Well done on finding the ostrich @Jellybaby. They were obviously hiding! 🤣 Hope you enjoy them.

It's grey and drizzly here. Wind has died down a bit but still a miserable day. ☹️

I decided to have an omelette today as although I have LOs in the fridge I'd keep them for tomorrow's lunch . I have this habit of making an omelette on the same day as DH does eggs for breakfast but more organised today.

I'm feeling quite slim at the moment so hope that's a good sign for this week's WI. 🤞

    Today's plan -
B- HEB porridge, HEA milk, berries (S), banana (F)
    L- Spanish omelette (P, S, F)  ham (P), pickles (S)
    D- veggie chilli (P, S), brown rice (F), cottage cheese (P)
    Syns - 0
