I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting the history of socks to be such an interesting subject! However I’m more than happy to use 5 coupons and reclaim 10 as we seem to have reached a consensus! I’ll amend my signature according.

Those who persist in wearing cotton-stockings through the winter, should, at least, wear under them a thin ankle-sock of lamb's-wool, or of wash-leather.
I have a small 'make do and mend' triumph to boast about this evening. At the back end of last summer I bought a grey Next fleece at a car boot sale for 50p, as it had a scorch mark on the pocket. I made a red poppy to go over the mark (I can't find the photos) but I was never happy with it. This evening I tried out a crochet pattern from a 1980 American book (that cost me 50p at a charity shop the other day). It was supposed to be made in tatting and used for the corner of a hankie, or slightly larger to decorate lingerie, or larger still for tablecloths. I just tried it out on a remnant of cotton DK yarn so mine was bigger, but it was also easier than I thought and has turned into a new decoration for my fleece. It's pale blue and grey on charcoal grey, and covers the mark beautifully.

Well done @Cherryfudge for your 'make do and mend' triumph. I love doing this type of upcycling/repurposing. I have a lilac cardigan (not handknitted) with a few holes so I'm on the search to see what I could with it as I love the colour.
I'm resisting the urge not to buy any more craft supplies until I finish my current projects, but I have so many. I think I have about 4 knitting bags with a part knitted sock in each, all waiting for their partners!! However, doing this challenge makes me want to complete as many garments for my 66 coupons. Just to see what I can achieve.
Hope everyone can spend some time 'crafting' this weekend.

Oooh, post a picture please, @Teadrinker_4! (Are the other three Teadrinkers you too? Or relatives?
).I'm sure the Village Hall people will all pile in with suggestions!
There are 1,001 videos out there for mends, and then there's the whole 'visible mending' trend, but a lot depends on the fabric and the size of the holes. It's delightful seeing people want to extend the life of clothes, and this thread has certainly opened my eyes to how complex the whole subject is.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. For small holes in hard-to-match knitwear, I find embroidery thread works quite well- it's not the same texture but it can be a closer colour-match often. I bought one of those boxes of "mixed embroidery threads" about 25 years ago and most are still barely-used! Very useful...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I'm knitting myself fingerless gloves in DK, and am kicking myself for not just making fingerless mitts, because I had fo=rgotten how fiddly the fingers are to knit. I will do them when I do proper real gloves in 4-ply or laceweight, but for a quick pair of knock-ups in DK the fingers are only a dozen or 14 stitches round and it's infuriatingly fiddly!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I have some Turtledoves. I find them great for chilly offices! They’re also selling seconds off at half price at the mo.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)
