Morning, all. Yes, best to get the chimney sorted out pronto. Last thing we need is a chimney fire in the hall. Was just popping on to update my coupons after buying a new wooly hat yesterday, but upon closer inspection it appears hats are off ration so that's jolly nice.

First purchase of the year made today in the Joules sale. Pyjamas trousers that have pockets, Yay! Who doesn’t love a pocket. Going to use 6 coupons, the same as a nightdress as I haven’t bought the pyjama top - PJs are 8 coupons. Hope everyone’s had a great weekend.

Thanks for the clarification of Much Mending and Little Mending

And special thanks to those of you that came shopping with me yesterday.  I needed horse food so went to the local agricultural merchant and bought three bags.   In past times i would have walked out with treats for the dog, treats for everyone and probably an item of clothing off the expensive racks for me.  This time I smiled, reminded myself with your help I had already used 6 of my 66 coupons up and came home with just the horse feed.    Go me!

@Watty1 - that's great! Did you have a warm glow of smug achievement all day? You earnt one!

@florianatwobob - you timed it right to have toasty feet! And you won't find me arguing against wool socks...! 

I have an interesting week ahead- I have just joined the local Council gym (very good price for state of the art, beautifully maintained, very modern gym plus induction and so on- £26/month!) with two of my swimming friends, the idea being we all go after swimming, so we definitely do go... but of course, those of you who know me will know that I am not really the lycra sort I am trying to work out what to wear... I have a couple of pairs of ancient leggings I could mend yet again where they've worn through the inner thighs, or I could buy myself a pair of leggings, or I could just find a pair of shorts which is of course what men wear... 
I suspect it'll be leggings to begin with, just because of the cooler weather but then I reckon I shall go over to shorts and cotton t-shirt. Lycra wears out too fast, plus all those studies about the odour-producing bacteria being millions of times more in synthetic workout clothes even after washing than in natural-fibres... 
I have a very strong feeling that eventually I may end up being the only person in there working out in a linen sleeveless blouse and linen shorts...  
I hate lycra so much...!

When I retired I joined our Council gym state of th e art like yours. It was pay as you go and since- a- I don’t like Lycra or other synthetics and -b- I couldn’t see the point of spending money , I just went along every week in a summer cotton Tshirt and linen shorts.

@retiredinfrance, ours does payg as well, but it's a lot cheaper over time to sign up for a direct-debit, and we hope that between three of us who already meet up to swim we can actually go! I mean, the advantage of going after swimming is that we will already be out in cold and wet weather, so the thought of a nice dry sheltered gym will be quite enticing! They open at 7am, so possibly in summer, we'll go there first and then swim afterwards... 

I feel encouraged by your t-shirt and shorts, and I think I may see if I can organise myself with those for next Monday after all! Start as I mean to go on...

I think the main thing is to be able to move freely and comfortably, @Laura_Elsewhere, so go in something you are happy to wear. Sports has its own fashions and that's all they are (anyone remember go-faster stripes on track suits?!). I would have thought shorts, joggers or leggings might all work, but leggings can rely on elasticity and unless they are a good fit and you know from experience that they will stay in place when moving a lot... you get where this is going?

@Laura_Elsewhere my feet are certainly very happy today, especially as I’ve combined woolly socks with a pair of Ugg boots with proper sheepskin lining. They’re not your typical Ugg boots and my sister calls them my WWII flying boots which feels even more apt. 

On the subject of leggings the only ones I’ve ever been satisfied with for stretch, quality and being squatproof are the proper exercise ones by Lucy Locket Loves. My Pilates instructor is a sadist and I feel secure no matter what position I end up in. They do have some crazy patterns but that just makes them fun and distracts me when I’m waving my legs in the air and muttering. The company owner used to be a fitness instructor and believes in inclusive sizing.
