We (the family) bought DD an Acer laptop just before Christmas, thankfully her dad suggested we start letting her use it immediately. After 2 weeks she got the BSoD, the memory in it had packed up and died.
We took it back to PC world expecting to have to fight for a replacement as we had heard some bad things about them not honouring their 28 day refunds policy (this was AFTER we bought the laptop there I hasten to add) but they refunded the full amount immediately, telling us that they had loads of problems with Acers. She now has a Samsung one. Looks like we might have had a lucky escape
you and me both . i made the mistake of buying on line , and was outside the 28 days when my memory ( hard drive ) went bad. If PC world are telling customers that, what does that tell you ???? what does it tell you when no company in plymouth will stock the brand , knowning what they know about the customer service.
it can only be a matter of time before they are on BBC Watchdog
my new Toshiba is from PC world, there is a lot to be said for buying in person with stuff like this IMOBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

Personally i will be glad to move away from Toshiba, however maybe we just got a bad batch (all machines were out of a batch of approximately 100 delivered). Their failure rate is also less than the Dell desktops we used previously .. I think we had almost 100% failure on those (they kept popping the capacitors on the motherboard).

I went through 3 of these laptops in as many weeks ... on the first one (which I still have) I have had the memory replaced, I am on my second hard disk and 5th or 6th keyboard (I have lost count) ... the first loan machine (brand new out) lasted less than a week before it died a death (no idea if they got it working again) the second loan machine (again brand new) lasted almost 2 weeks before the screen went on it (apparently a manufacturing fault were some connector in the screen had not been done up correctly) .. the third loan machine (about 3 months old) had built in articifical intelligence, it decided when it wanted to work and for how long, it was slow to rise in the morning (bit like myself) and liked to knock off early (sadly I was still trying to catch up with work because it had decided to keep me waiting in the morning). Note all loan machines were Toshiba laptops.

DD has a Toshiba, never been an ounce of trouble.
Now Fujitsu Siemens are an entirely different matter...0 -
Personally I wouldn't bother buying a PC online, because although it may be cheaper, it's SO much more hassle if anything goes wrong, because alot of customer services for computer companies are rubbish, not just ACER.
I got my ACER laptop 3 years ago for £550 from a small independent local computer store, who said any problems just bring it back to them and they'll sort it. Bad publicity would kill them, so they're genuinely very good at sorting stuff out!
It died a couple of weeks ago, but given it'd been used daily for the last 3 years (no desk, so bumped and bashed quite alot!!), with no other problems, then I'd say that was pretty good. Plus I can now buy a higher spec model so my games will work fasterShould've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Nothing wrong with Acer, I've used them in the past and recommended them to friends, installed for companies use etc.
IBM outsourced their PC builds to Acer and Acer used IBM HDD etc in their PC's.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
