I have had a high spec Acer laptop for almost a year and have never had any problems with it (touch wood).

My oh, who worked in the IT industry, did some serious research into a lot of companies and decided to go with Acer.

  • he must be one of the few in the IT industry that would buy them then - can't think of any of my friends or collegues that would reccomend nor buy one themselves.
  • i am writing this post on an acer laptop i bought 3 months ago. It's not the highest spec but it was cheap and suits my needs. I haven't had any problems so far, i'll keep you posted :o)

If the OP is the first poster on that external website I have only one question...why on earth would you pay £800 for a repair when you could buy a new computer for half the price???

Naturally you get what you pay for, but are Acer any worse than Packard Hell, or Medion, or Compaq, or God forbid, eMachines. I've seen a lot of laptops or different makes and I have to say that they all have their problems. I suppose you have to weigh up the initial cost compared to what might happen. Why pay £800 for a Sony when you can get the same spec laptop for £400.

my laptop cost me £800, and has since never been seen again after i sent it to Acer( Although the police are investigating , and have it narrowed it down to 2 DHL empoyees).

No it was not Acer's fault it got stolen and i'm quite prepared to accept i got a bad comp in otherwise good bunch.

    but.

i don,t appericate being lied to by Acer customer service (0870 853 1000) on several occasions ( e.g saying they would open a full investigation with DHL which they never did...i know because i finally got someone at DHL to talk to me after Acer did not )
    or
having the phone slammed down on me when i ask questions they cannot answer from a script.
    or
Having promises of phone calls returned , replacements sent out broken time after time or constantly being told to e mail when they Never answered a single one
    or
being told that i could go whistle for my laptop beacuse they had sent it , if i had not got it ...that was my problem ..not thiers ( regardless of the fact it was still in their care)

i,m sorry my expensive laptop broke after a month , i'm sorry it got stolen in your care , but it thier job to sort these things , not to make me feel like i was something they found on the bottom of a shoe. there was only one person there who was worthy of the name Customer service assisitant or manager ( Lucy if you read this , you are wasted there , join a company with a future where i'm sure you will go far ) the rest would rather you dissapeared and write off your property.

trust me guys , prey your Acer keeps working . oh look anthor
dissatisfied customer has taken them time to post after dealing with Acer customer service
Bought a Aspire 5101 in April 2007 - in November it develops a intermittant boot error and cannot see the HDD. Replaced the HDD myself late Nov, sent laptop back to Acer, it came back on 19/12 with a new motherboard fitted, lasted less than 2 hours and screen failed so sent back on 24/12/2007, under a new case ID. Complained and got a stock response letter so have now replied in kind, still awaiting motherboard number 4......Will never again buy anything branded as Acer, apalling service

We (the family) bought DD an Acer laptop just before Christmas, thankfully her dad suggested we start letting her use it immediately. After 2 weeks she got the BSoD, the memory in it had packed up and died.

We took it back to PC world expecting to have to fight for a replacement as we had heard some bad things about them not honouring their 28 day refunds policy (this was AFTER we bought the laptop there I hasten to add) but they refunded the full amount immediately, telling us that they had loads of problems with Acers. She now has a Samsung one. Looks like we might have had a lucky escape
