Wow. Just stepping out of the TLC carriage where I have been for nearly 3 weeks.
I didn't realise all the awards DH and I had recieved. Thankyou @Mrs_Salad_Dodger for organising us last year. Supporting us to get back on the rails when we fell off, all the services in the TLC carriage and general encouragement.
So the last 4 months of 2023 were crazy for me. DD moved back home triggering a massive declutter, family visits and ongoing issues with DSs 1.2 and 3. These are set to carry on I think. I had almost as many in and outs (items from other people come and go) as I did my own decluttering. I achieved 97/100 personal bags and boxes and 13 large items. I am very happy with that. For otheres 90 in and outs and 3 large items.
Before getting officially sick I had taken to micro jobbing. 5 mins hear and 10 mins there. I realise now that I was already sick (with a virus) but thought I was just tired. I found this to be a very effective weapon in my armoury and will continue with it.
The second thing is to ask for help. DH has been a fantastic supporter of my activities to clear the house. In fact Christmas wouldn't have happened without him.
So targets this year: 100 bags or boxes out of the house. There are too many items to count individually and I would give up the will.
Although I have made great inroads into the hoard that I had to move from DD room I still have a way to go. Main groupings now are fabrics and crafts and stationary. Photos, pictures and frames, More books. Ornaments. My blue and white collection needs to be halved.
I still have a lot of items 'to sell' which will be pared down and got online or donated. I want the money for a world trip which I have about £200 for so far.
To make a start DH and I made a brief visit to a friend yesterday and dropped off two bags. One with the sort of things people use for making up hampers and gift sets. The second was full of unopened/unused gifts for a local village tombola.
So a great start. Happy New Year to all and happy decluttering. :Wife, mother, gardener, nurse, Big C survivor. Hi all, just popping in, I'll be back later with numbers
@Mamaofmanybudgets you could try fb marketplace or ravelry which is a knitting site. It might depend on what type of yarn you have, in ravelry you list by brand, weight, colour etc but on fb marketplace you can just list by a bundle and can stipulate buyer collects so that could save you some postage
Right off to the post office, see you all later.
Take care everyone

I'm proud of myself for starting my decluttering journey. I've spent the past couple of days looking at things in the house and asking myself if I like it, use it or need it. If the answer is no, it goes. I've got a few boxes near the front door for charity shop, re-sell, freecycle and tip. I set an original target of 2 items per day but I'm changing it to 2024 as now I'm looking at things differently I can see just how much can go!2024 Challenges

1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks + a weekly Jettison Junk in January
2. Sort out sleep patterns - target bed by 2:00 a.m. & up by 9:00 a.m
3. Deal with mail & email on a daily basis
4. Don’t put it down, put it away + deal with mini tasks as soon as they are noticed e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
5. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ using the acronym - I.R.I.S. (Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off) - One per quarter
6. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
DH is now up & about - he is taking the opportunity to feed the worms & fill the bird feeders whilst the rain has stopped for a few minutes 🙂
dND, thank you for sharing your experience re mice 👏 which will hopefully help SIRENS 🤞
Great decluttering flamingo747 👏
EnergyShifter, sorry to hear that you are yet another of our declutterati to have succumbed to the NOT Covid ‘lurgy’ 😔 I hope you found everything you needed in the TLC Carriage 😊 Well done on persevering with the first stage of your accounts 👏
Thanks for the reminder flamingo747 👏
~FlowerPot~, NOT sad at all that your list is motivating you 😊 Although the even bigger motivation & pleasure is when you mark off a task as Completed 🥳👏
SIRENS, hopefully your preemptive actions of calling in the pest guy & getting your cousin to clean out the under-stairs & hall cupboards, will mean that you have done enough to scare the mice away 🤞Just thinking that maybe your cat is so laid back that she is working on the ‘live & let live’ principle 😉 Stacey & Dilly would be very proud of you investing in glass containers 😉😊
dND, that sounds like a very useful tip to reassure one’s self that the mice are outside where they belong 😮💨
QueenJess, sorry to hear that your children were being naughty yesterday 😔 although very pleased to hear that you left DH in charge & took yourself off for some TLC 😊 Re last years decluttering, I take it you are joking re your statement “After the end of 2023, my totals seem pathetic!” 😉 I don’t think there is a single one of your fellow declutterati that thought you were ‘slacking’ 😔 40,000 was a stupendous achievement 🥳 By the way, I think decluttering a child counts as 10,000 🙃🤣 Don’t forget to count the decluttering from the TV planner as I am sure that counts as digital decluttering 😉 Please have a few cwtches 🤗 & 💐
Brambling, I did have to smile at your mousetrap tale albeit ruefully 😁 Sounds like your work colleague had mice the size of foxes 😧 My DSis used to have 3 cats that all loved to bring her ‘presents’ & not just mice 😉 Their particular favourite was frogs 🤣 What a brilliant start to your Decluttering Campaign 👏
Another page caught up 🙂

Hi hope I can join you all again. ATM the only things I want to declutter are a certain family member that only causes stress, my period pain and kids back to school 🤣
Projects will definitely include the loft and sheds and I hope this year hubby will tackle his workshop as he no longer works from home in it. The aim really is to get rid of crap I wouldn't want to move be iv we move house which could be years away but will eventually happen.
On a day to day I need to remember to be kind to myself and just do what I can do and plod on so I won't be keeping track but I'll try to report in and post more as you all seem lovely
Special mention to @Mrs_Salad_Dodger for keeping us in line22 -

So i picked another job from the decluttering jar.... bundle up yarn to sell on ebay!
Does anyone know any other places to sell yarn? 🤔20 -
Email received from company doing our kitchen refit that everything is being delivered tomorrow between 8 & 9:30!! And I normally sleep in til about 9!!! But that's fine. The front room is cleared sufficiently to make room for the appliances and cupboard bits and pieces. Just the laundry drying in there that will be moved later on. And the early delivery means we can have a leisurely breakfast after.
The back of OH's monster vehicle is full for the tip run which he says he will do tomorrow. I might add a couple of banana boxes that are full of tat treasures for the charity shop and drop them on the way.....I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
