£59.89 spent today, between the market, the butcher & the town fishmonger. That fishmonger is very good, but far more expensive than my usual market one; however he did have some relatively inexpensive fresh haddock, which has gone down very well this evening! I haven't done a supermarket shop, so will probably have to dash in there for a little top-up at some point early next week, but it's just DD2 & I this weekend as OH has gone off to footy, staying with his brother.
I'm panicking very slightly, we have a little under £70 per "week" left from my target figure for the month, which should be easily achievable as the freezer's packed and there are plenty of leaves, leeks, mooli & parsnips left at the 'lottie - if not underwater, the plot is right at the edge of the flood zone, and the town's new residents are marvelling at the new, temporary "Lake of Dorset" on the floodplain - but DD1 & her BF have booked flights back on 31st, a couple of weeks earlier than advertised, although they've clearly been having a wonderful time. That's just into February's budget, but I'll need to prepare ahead as I'm picking them up. Plus DS3, her twin, has just announced his intention to come home the weekend before, and stay to welcome them home! (Well, the whole family gathered to welcome him home from his year studying in Chile, ten years ago.) So, that'll be lovely, and he's been very much less fussy about food this Christmas than before, but it's still another mouth to feed for the best part of a week. Think I'd better do a proper audit of the freezer!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)9 -
@thriftwizard can I ask what you consider relatively inexpensive for fresh haddock please
I buy my fish direct from a fish merchant but prices have been rising and I am not sure where they are now on a price comparison
I won't buy fish in a supermarket so would love a comparison with your fish monger

£2.10 spent on eggs from the market, £25.25 at supermarket, but I used £20 of nectar points as most of the food is for a family get together postponed from New Year due to lurginess. So £7.35 actually spent this week.Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget10

So far I have spent 28.05 this week. Trying to be more mindful of meal planning.
Going away next week -which will skew my grocery spending this month. But it's been good to get back in habit. I hate meal planning so in past, big expenditure has been last minute top up shops. I tried Hello Fresh for a bit but it often felt a bit wasteful (packaging wise). And I seemed to accumulate garlic cloves. Ha
