Running total £155.31/£300
£112.75 of this was for just this second week which I have to say I was really surprised at but we do have enough oat and soy milk and to last three weeks which was £28 of the total. Have got into using the bread machine to mix up to the dough stage then baking in the oven so have been buying some of the more expensive small mill bread flours to experiment with. Also took advantage of the clubcard offer at Mr T's on Heinz soups 8 for £7. Just discovered they do a vegan cream of tomato one so stocked up.
Still, it's a long way to 25th which is when my January grocery month ends but I think we should be okay.

OK so, end of week one my budget is saying £94.87 however the actual balance is £97.78.
Lost a few quid there but pleased with myself for sticking to the £100 for the week (£400 a month) . Roll on next week.

Blackcats said:@LadyWithAPlan - looking forward to hearing about your homemade bread. I'm feeling inspired to get our bread maker out of the cupboard when our current freezer stocks of shop bought bread are used up. There's nothing as yummy in the winter than homemade soup and homemade bread. I made leek and potato soup this week and it was so cosy and tasty. Always amazes me that leeks, potatoes, onion and stock cube transform themselves into something wondrous after 20 minutes in the soup maker.
I have a pressure cooker rather than a soup maker so I will have a go this week. I always make my own stock but is there a store brand cube you can recommend as the last stock cup i tried was way too salty.?
GF brown bread was v good, i asked for a browned top and it was perfect. Tasted lovely and also toasts well. I used Soya milk which gave it maybe a thicker consistency than milk would so I will try other DF milks such as almond or will water it down - still tasty but I think good to experiment with brown bread and lightness.
Planning a trip to aldi for seeds/nuts as well to get excited on the range of recipes.
The white gf is lighter and quicker but of course less healthy. I now have loads slices frozen and I can thus make breadcrumbs :0
@LotsOfTea I love ginger jam, Waitr*** do it but it never stays in my cupboards for long though now I am making my own GF bread I have an excuse to stock up
Had my HellFresh delivered and cooked one of the meals, very highly salty/sugary rather than tasty - i love spices but the chicken rice recipe was not great and I added a lot more spinach as amount of greens provided was derisible. Not a healthy, nutritionally balanced or cheap meal.DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

£13.27 spent yesterday in Asda. This did include a birthday cake, chocolate, pork pies and hot cross buns. It was OH's birthday. The rest was salad cream, gravy granules and canned pineapple. OH also bought himself some new jeans. Total spent on food etc now stands at, £65.18. I won't need to go shopping this week, may need milk but I'll pick that up locally, if nobody else is going into town.
Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.9 -

7/8 NSDs today. I went to the local little Tesco Metro which is about 4 minutes walk from my house as I live almost in the centre of my little town.
Got everything on my very short list
6 Bananas 65p
6 gala apples ,reduced to 49p
Clementines in a net, reduced to 33p
4 jacket spuds 49p
Yellow pepper 55p
A few other odds and ends and grand total of ...drum roll £4.31 so I'm really happy with that for my first shop of the year. I'm using up stuff from the tins cupboard and the freezer
Found a Heinz tomato cuppa soup packet in the cupboard and had it for lunch with some bread and butter and grated some parmesan on the top of the soup and added a small dollop of sweet chilli sauce and it warmed me up a treat.
I have some custard in a jug in the fridge so I will have some shortly poured over one of the diced bananas for a little pudding to pad out my lunch a bit .
I have a cottage pie from the freezer for dinner tonight with some green beans and carrots, and some trifle from the fridge for pudding

£87.04 spent today. I ended up at Sainsbury’s instead of Aldi because my children had specific requests for items I couldn’t get at Aldi. All is not lost though, I’m going to try Aldi next week so I can get a picture of what is available and what isn’t.I overspent today stocking up on items that were on offer. These items won’t be bought again this month so hopefully the budget will even out. FC
Tracking my food shopping is eye opening. I can see how I overspend when in store. I am usually more intentional when I shop online. I have to sort myself out because I like to choose our fresh products so I know I couldn’t convert to 💯 online shopping.Total so far:£163.74/£500Save £12k in 2024: £13,542/£12,00012 -
@London_1 I'm gnashing my teeth a little - a similar list of fruit & veg, plus a loaf of own-brand cardboard bread & some rolls for OH, has just set me back £11.60 in W8rose! And two of the items were reduced, by a whole 30p each! Wish I'd felt up to trotting all the way to the greengrocers; wouldn't have been much less, but at least the money would have stayed in our community. Or driven down to the greengrocers in the city, but then that would have cost me fuel. Ah well. We've reached the end of the festive supplies now - I've turned the two last 50p pineapples into Tepache & Heligan Pineapple Cake - but the market is back up & running again so I can re-stock at sensible prices on Friday.
