  • Got paid. Have paid £100 off my credit card. Set up a standing order for my spending payments. Have bought a few things that were on my wants list like moisturiser, bath salts, wax melts, a couple of knitting patterns and some primer which I got 70p cash back through M*nzo (had been planning to buy some primer anyway). Should have a low spend weekend.

Have been out today and got a few last minute bits and pieces to take to family for xmas, there were a few bits missing from the supermarket delivery so I picked up substitutions. I had lunch out which was £8.65 but was very nice. I don't have much food in plus still feeling wiped out from a difficult December so I treated myself. I've spent all of this part-week's money but should have two NSDs today and tomorrow as am going to family over Xmas. Also I allotted myself a weeks money for this part week. Need to tighten the purse strings in the New Year.

My H%nn%s tops arrived. I was a tiny bit disappointed with the quality. I hope they all fit. I'm on the larger size so even XL doesn't always fit. I'm watching Sing on ITV at the moment and doing a few bits around the house. It's a Wonderful Life is on at 4:30 which I will definitely watch as I've never seen it and been wanting to for ages. I invested £5.50 in a Radio Times.

Was thinking about what I'm saving for. I need a proper emergency fund of about £1000, want to save about 5000 towards moving costs, 30000 towards the difference between the cost of my flat and the mortgage I could realistically get. I want to start chucking some more money towards my pension and I would love a new bathroom which I'm reckoning about 4000 for. I would also like to save 2500 for a lovely two week sunny holiday sometime. I save £10/ week towards holidays but that won't get me to the Greek Islands! That's 15 years saving at current rates, pension excluded if my maths is right.

  • Away from home with family so managing plenty of no spend days. I’ve calculated and may need to transfer some money from savings at the end of the month because of the extra week I allowed myself at the start of the month. But other than that all good.

I did a massive food shop from T@scos for 2nd when I’m back. I chose a 4 hour delivery window so pick and deliver was only £1.50 but the whole shop was £70. Should last me a couple of weeks with some small top up shops.

I’ve done a few V&nted shops which went on my credit card by mistake. I’ve now worked out how to alter the payment method so hopefully that won’t happen again. I should also try and sell some more high value stuff on V&nted. I have a few nice dresses that are too small for me that I’ll never wear. I basically shop because I’m bored. I need to stop that.

Having a good break. I do feel more in control of my finances with my new setup.

  • Hi, you say you browse for something to do, but you have bought knitting patterns. Why don't you challenge yourself to knit something by x time and try to focus your attention on that? I found I saved loads by keeping out of the shops, i.e. not browsing for something to do. The same will be with online. Good luck on your journey V x
  • Sold £6 worth more of stuff of Vinted. Need to post it when I get home. It all helps.

  • I’ve got £15 left in my weekly spending which should top up today but will come in tomorrow because of the bank holiday. It’s making me think more carefully about my spending. Home tomorrow which will be the big test as the spending temptation starts. I spend loads here and there on Vinted but don’t really need any more clothes. I need to practice waiting 24 hours before clicking buy.

  • I'm doing well so far. I've got £5 left on my weekly spending money as I went into town yesterday and paid for half a haircut (had already paid a deposit) plus got a couple of other things. I need to buy a coffee with my knitting group on Saturday and a coffee for me and a friend (it's my turn) on Sunday. So will have to transfer ten pounds extra over to cover that. But I was pleasantly surprised when I added up what I had left to pay this month in direct debits, weekly savings and weekly spendings, and found there's a reasonable amount left over. I'm going to make a small payment towards my credit card, and a bigger payment at the end of the month if everything goes according to plan. I managed a no spend day on Monday and today. I didn't buy a coffee at work today, partly because I've reduced to one coffee a day over the holidays (at home in the morning), for the sake of my wellbeing and finances, and partly because I knew I just didn't really have the money. I've transferred £150 from my holiday savings for spending money on my holiday at the end of the month. Everything is feeling quite in control.

  • Didn’t quite manage a no spend day. Was starving mid morning so I had an almond croissant from the cafe at work. The weird thing was, I really enjoyed it because I really needed and I was buying it thoughtfully not just because I was bored. I also bought some food from the food account after work. That account is looking quite healthy. I’ve nearly got a month’s food in with a few bits to pick up like bread and fruit week to week. I also need to get cleaning products which is the same pot at the weekend. Electrician still hasn’t messaged me back so I still have no heating. I’m hoping maybe he’s off until Monday and will reply then. I can’t be doing with finding another electrician.
