If the brand is Rocket. They do not have the best reputation. Some even failed on trip from Korean factory to UK on boat.

  • The caris a tuscon hybrid ultimate. The cameras are nextbase. Apparently they are not wired to the ignition(?) so dont go off (not sure how you can tell), but the aa man unplugged it for me anyway to be on thesafe side.

So it sounds like it wasn't the car at fault? But the accessory that was fitted to it?

In fairness, I understand that the dashcam was installed by the original supplying dealership prior to collection by the OP.  A Franchise Dealer (of any brand) should be sufficiently knowledgeable to correctly wire in a car dash cam, know that it requires an ignition-switched circuit and to connect appropriately.

I cant see it being the dashcam after 15 days

Halfords fitted me a next base in my Jag 4 years ago and I've not had a problem

For the sake of a few quid perhaps Halfords would check it for you

Totally agree - but the OP said it didn't turn off - so it's the fault of the accessory rather than the big, expensive shiny new car as the OP was concerned about....

If it's switched on 24/7 (which the OP has mentioned it was) and the car isn't being driven daily - it'll soon flatten the battery.

    I disagree.
Not the fault of the accessory but the way the accessory was installed.

I have a Nextbase dashcam, the same make as the OP and they have a small built in rechargeable battery and a parking mode function.
When the car is in use (ignition on), the dashcam is actively recording everything and keeps the little battery charged.
When the car is not is use "parked" (ignition off), the dashcam sleeps but the little rechargeable battery is enough that if an impact is detected, the camera starts recording for a short while.  The idea being that it will capture a record of the vehicle driving away after the impact.
The only way the dashcam knows whether the car is in use or parked is via the power being on/off at the ignition switch.
If the dashcam has been wired from an always live circuit, it will be always on and drain the 12V car battery very quickly.
If the dashcam has been wired from an ignition-switched circuit, it will operate as intended in "driving" and "parked" modes appropriately.

So, not a fault of the big, expensive, shiny new car AND not a fault of the accessory.  A fault of how the accessory was installed by the supplying Dealer - which is an unacceptable school-child error.

I agree with the above; if the dashcam is meant to be on an ignition live wire and is on a permanent live wire, it'll drain the battery a lot quicker. Given the OP is unwell the car presumably hasn't been running much.

Unfortunately that may be the only thing they'd need to take it back to the supplying dealer for. But it'd be worth giving them a phone first and see if they can arrange for somewhere more local to have a look at and correct it.
