It was a digital licence and has failed
Is this down to MS or MSI (manufacturers of Laptop)?
My old laptop was running Win 10 professional ( upgraded from home)
Can I transfer the licence to my new laptop and upgrade to 11 pro?

No you cannot.  If you had bought a retail licence you could transfer it a to a completely different computer.  Computers that come with Windows pre installed have an OEM licence which can't be transferred to a different computer.

It was bought as a retail upgrade from home
What happens to the he licence on the old device?
Does it downgrade automatically to home

    Activate Windows - Microsoft Support

Thanks - I have tried MAGICAL JELLY BEAN to check my installed product key and that reckons that I have Win 10  installed - this somewhat surprises me because it is definately Win 11 !!

    Here is the activation error

    Maybe we should start over?
We seem to have perhaps got lost in upgrade stuff.
You said in the first post that this is a six month old laptop, did it come with Win10 or Win 11.
