Look at similarly sized properties on the rental market in the local area.
Pretend you are moving into one of those together. Now add on bills, council tax and all the rest of it and split it 50%. I have a feeling you are far better off with the deal your GF is suggesting.
Obviously you have to live within your means. If her place is too big and you see yourselves as staying together long term, then suggest she rents it out and downsize to something you are both happy with.
Your houseboat is irrelevant if you have both decided you would rather live in a house. Sell it, rent it out or whatever.1 -
I would expect you to pay half of everything if you are living in her house. I do not think you would be able to rent a property with all your living expenses including food for £550 a month, also if you are wise, as you own your narrowboat it would be best if you rented it out, which would give you an additional income which will probably not be far off the £550 a month she is asking for, depending on where you live if it is anywhere near London rents will be much higher. If however you feel you are being hard done by paying £550 a month then I would stay where you are, it does not bode well for your relationship if you are going to resent sharing all bills. You might have only been spending £350 a month on living costs before, but don't forget that did not include any rent as your narrowboat is paid for.2

You should pay half if you can as if you rented somewhere together it would cost more than her mortgage.

What you pay at the moment is irrelevant. You have chosen to live on a boat and now you are choosing to live in a house.
You need to look together at each of your incomes and then work out a proportion of the outgoings minus the mortgage that is fair for each of you to pay. So if she earns 20% more than you she should pay that proportion of the outgoings more than you plus the entire mortgage. Similarly if you earn 20% more than her the reverse applies to the outgoings, but she still pays the whole mortgage. Equal pay equals a 50:50 split of the outgoings but she still pays the mortgage.Downshifted

Bills minus mortgage = 50/50
People saying if you rented you would pay rent anyway BUT also comes with protection and only a court can evict you. Right now, you could come home to bags packed left on doorstep and locks changed.
People saying I'd you were a lodger you would pay rent, they have less than rights than above however have their own room.
This is cheaper for her too, I live on my own -broadband, water, TV licence is a fixed rate, it doesn't double up.
Council tax, say £100 for full rate, 25% discount is £75.00, 2 adults splitting is £50 each.0 -
Get her to sell up and move in with you, or if you move in with her then when you come to have a disagreement at any time the words "It IS my house" will come into play at sometime If you have sold your home / Boat, then you will be stuck in an awful position to put up with it or find somewhere to live quick. If you really want to move in together, do so on an equal footing by getting a place TOGETHER 50/50, then it will be OUR house.
