I never ever just put the card through the door without knocking but i have on a few occassions had an irate customer saying that i have, i take great offence to being called a liar by these people.
I always knock at least three times, i go round the back of the property if possible to see if they are in the garden. Ive often had people who just happened to catch me as i walk away saying "sorry i never heard you knocking /i was in the shower/i was in the back garden/i was drying my hair/i had the tv on too loud/i nipped out to the back", i could go on an on.
Yes, and I take great offence at being called a liar by the postman/sorting office staff when I tell them that their beloved wonderful postie left a card without bothering to knock. IT DOES HAPPEN! In my office, I am actually sat about 10 paces from the door and letterbox and have a clear view of the postie as he comes up and down my drive. Several times I have watched them stuff a bundle of envelopes through the door and have later found the dreaded red card inside. Now I am in an office, 99% of the time either myself or my receptionist are sat there in view of the door. Posties are definitely calling me a liar when they tell me that posties always leave a red card!0 -

I have had problems with Royal Mail in the past but have always found that a calm, rational telephone call to the depot manager does the trick. On one occasion I was sure I had a thieving postie and kept a log of my mail pattern (normally have 6-8 items a day and 2-3 parcels a week - previous postie able to verify this). After three days of no mail at all following several weeks of reduced mail I called the depot manager. He immediately put in place a security system where he alerted me to what was in the bag for me each day and I called him when the mail arrived. Within 2 days we had sorted the problem and the thief was charged and later convicted (and obviously fired).
The next postman seemed no better as I was aware of missing parcels. However, one day I did get a card and called at the parcel office to collect it to be greeted with 'Where have you been? I thought you had emigrated.' by the regular guy on the desk. It transpired that my missing parcels were safe and well in the office but the postie hadn't bothered to leave me any cards. Reported and dealt with.
I now have an absolute superstar of a postie. He lives locally and has popped roung in the evening with the odd thing because he thought they looked important and had missed me at delivery time. I have also called the depot manager about him and he received some sort of service award.0 -
this is it,in every job there are those that are good, bad and mediocre
personally ive never understood those who risk a prison sentrence(as near all mail theft cases end in) over what can only be minimal returns for the risks involved0
