im peeved as well, cause rather than try and deliver my parcels, they just stuck the "we couldn't fit this through your letter box and you didn't answer" card though our door...

I ordered from WH SMiths on the 5th December, some bits & pieces including a book for a secret santa I had to do on the 19th.
its arrived on the 21st. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

While I understand people's frustration, in the grand scheme of things - some late arrivals won't make a big impact on the level of contentment people are experiencing in their lives. Regrettably Christmas seems to have become a season about simply giving and receiving gifts and these are the only things people get concerned about. Hopefully the mountain of gifts sitting there now unwrapped and waiting to be enjoyed will be sufficient to keep people amused until that desperately needed late package turns up to make their happiness complete.John0

the most ironic thing is the amount of packages i will be returning uncollected around january 20th.
i understand peoples frustrations and try my best to help but the limtations and failures in the services are near 100% down to the cuts and systems put in place by senior managementthe_northorn_herald_blog wrote:Hopefully those of us who have family outside the region will have posted our presents weeks ago because if today’s Sunday Times is anything to go by, they might not arrive in time. According to their front page, the problems stack up like this:
1. 2 million parcels or letters are lost or delayed in the Xmas post
2. Postal workers are over whelmed by the £10 billion boom in internet sales
3. Postal workers are so over stretched they are putting “you were out” cards through doors without even attempting to deliver parcels etc.
4. People have been forced to queue for hours at collection centres
5. Work loads have increased 20% on last year’s figures.
Postwatch, the independent watchdog, has contacted Adam Crozier, chief executive of Royal Mail, demanded that the recorded delivery service is either improved or scrapped due to postal workers failure to obtain receipt signatures, even though customers have paid for this service.
Could this be the same Adam Crozier who in November received the following remuneration package:
1. A 26% pay rise
2. Package total of £1.25 million
3. A performance bonus of £469,000
4. A pensions bonus of £158,000
5. A pay increase ten times the amount he gave other staff.
This was despite the following facts:
1. Royal Mail has just faced the worst strike for 20 years.
2. A back log of 200 million letters and parcels.
3. The loss of 45,000 jobs
4. Closure of 4500 post offices
5. 2500 further closures to follow
6. Despite a virtual monopoly, Royal Mail has experienced a 33% drop in profits.
(The Northern Herald first covered this issue on 1st November).
Unfortunately it is the same Adam Crozier, a man whose own lack of dignity allowed him to take the money without any degree of acceptance that at the end of the day he had done a bad job! Instead he blames the Royal Mails problems on staff and the unions.
Luckily, Santa doesn’t use the Royal Mail to deliver his presents. If he did, Christmas would be in March!

I have in the past been top of the list criticising Royal Mail but come on people .. how come this happens EVERY single year ... EvERY year we all know that it is going to be busy around Chrostmas, EVERY year the Royal Mail tells us the last days for delivery, EVERY year people leave ordering things to the very last minute, EVERY year vent boards are full of peopple complaining that they did not receive the goods in time, EvERY year there will be at least one pathetic sob story aboout little diddums having to do without on Christmas day.
For this one we should stop blaming the Royal Mail and try applying a bit more common sense ... maybe a little bit of planning would be better next year .. order earlier.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Custardy I don't think anyone is blaming you personally. We're all aware that posties, in the main, do their best under extremely difficult circumstances.
In common with several other posters, I have had a 'we tried to deliver...' card when I have been in the house, the front door has been open with the porch door closed instead, and I have been sat waiting for the post. I saw the postie walk back down the drive - he didn't have a parcel. I don't particulary mind going to the sorting office to collect my parcels, but I resent being lied to. Just tell me that under the current volume of post, parcel deliveries are difficult to maintain.
Also, if RM guarantee a service, and do not provide it, they must expect angry customers. People pay a premium for SD, and should receive what they pay for. It astounds me that year after year the same problems arise at Christmas - transport, post, supplies at the supermarket. It's not as if Christmas is something that has never happened before! Big business should plan for it.
I really hope you don't think people are attacking you personally Custardy, I'm sure you are fantastic at your job but in any company there are those that let the side down, and they are the reason for these posts, definately not you!0 -
i dont take it personally.however if you ever get to do the 'door' for collections then everythings your fault
last week i was blamed for the office being where it is,TNT not passing amazons to rm quickly enough, not being parcelforce, citylink or business post, not being a post office and the best of december being the woman insisting she had handed her red card to me even though i was dealing with someone else.
to the extent when the guy who was dealing with her returned i was accused of passing the card to him!!
however too often RM is the easy target.
as ive said all these articles on lost items are a nonsense. its just journos filling pages with random numbers.
i also believe many retailers have just ploughed stuff into RM's system last thing meaning they can pass the buck for failed xmas delivery.
as i said about cut off times for SD items on saturday.just because amazon sent it sd doesnt mean they made the cut off. the website would show expected delivery by the date they are scanned into the system.
i cant really give details as i dont know amazons procedures for timings on SD.
also it they despatched near everything by SD then i expect theres no way the system could handle that volume of sd's given the volume in the system.(sd has been massivly busy over december)
given how tight things were last year i knew(and i expect management knew) there was no way we were gonig to make it this year with the cuts and changes of 20070 -
Well my Grandparents kindly sent presents from the US w/b 9th Dec and they haven't turned up. I've alot of experience with Airmail and they should have arrived. RM's own date for UK-US was 14th!
I'm a big girl, not dissapointed for myself, but Airmail doesn't come cheap and my Grandparents went through the trouble of specially buying xmas presents and spending out on the postage for them to get here, not unreasonable to expect them before xmas!
When they do turn up I will check the posting date and when RM got them, and if i'm not satisfied will put a claim in.If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0
