how do i know this? my husband was in... waiting for them.... and no way in heck did they knock.
something sheffield has a problem with in general, and one ive fallen foul of in every area ive lived in.
This doesn't happen. Think about it:
Hubby is carrying mail bags on his walk. Why would he not knock and put a card through the door, then have to carry your parcel round for the rest of his walk, then spend additional time at the end of the walk taking the parcels he couldn't deliver back to the callers office?
It makes sense that he wants to get rid of the parcels to lighten his load and if everything is delivered, he can go straight home after he's posted stuff through the last door on his walk. Here I go again on my own....0 -

its a common issue in our office, but not for the reasons people think(note im talking about my office only!)
basically drivers go out with packets.now on the many stairs in our area they try the buzzer for the flat and if no answer write a card out.
this is passed ot the postie the next day for delivery.
now of course the persons home the next day when the card arrives  and they come in ranting they were home and the postie just left a card
im not saying it doesnt happen but as said its more a driver issue as a postie(especially at this time of year) wants rid of packets than lug them around.
on saturday i had to carry 2 red bags with one just to carry the extra packets between puch boxes.
if i was that way inclined i could have refused those packets as you are forbidden from carrying more than one bag0 -
Can I just say that we have had lots of deliveries from RM this year from various on line companies and we have had no problems whatsoever from either the postman himself or our delivery office. One parcel posted on 20th December got to us on 24th December via a royal mail driver.
- as far as I am concerned our regular postman is marvellous, our temporary postman who we had for a couple of days in the middle of december was good, actually describing what the articles looked like on the red card (eg long thin tube, or square package) so we had some idea of what the parcels were when we went to collect them.0 -

I never ever just put the card through the door without knocking but i have on a few occassions had an irate customer saying that i have, i take great offence to being called a liar by these people.
I always knock at least three times, i go round the back of the property if possible to see if they are in the garden. Ive often had people who just happened to catch me as i walk away saying "sorry i never heard you knocking /i was in the shower/i was in the back garden/i was drying my hair/i had the tv on too loud/i nipped out to the back", i could go on an on.0 -
the best ones when you knocking and can hear someone inside talking/moving around but they dont come to the door.
how can you hear them through the door but not hear the knocking??!!0 -

Oooh, you were lucky LOL
At the beginning of December, my son ordered me a new mobile phone for Xmas and when it didn't arrive, he was getting a bit worried so he rang the phone company. They apologised for it not arriving, admitted it was their fault and sent out another.
Christmas Eve, I was awoken quite early by a ringing of my doorbell and when I answered it I was greeted by a guy in a suit from RM. He introduced himself and then explained that the reason he was at my door was because some tea leaf at RM had ripped open a hole in the SD bag and swiped the contents (the new mobile!). He apologised and showed me the huge rip in the bag (a very obvious hand sized rip as you could see imprints from fingers and thumb).
He handed me the bag and a claim form for a refund. Son posted this same day so we'll now sit and wait to see how long it takes RM to cough up for employing tea leaves  .
Whoever it was that nicked my phone (or bought it from them in a pub) won't be able to use it though - phone company have blocked it hahaha serves them right!0 -
am I one of the only people who treats 'last posting days' with some caution? the wa I look at it, if royal mail say X is the last posting date to guarantee delivery by date Y, I always figure thios is an estimate based on avergae postal volumes, previous postal volumes at this time year, etc., all things which can fluctuate easily. I also figure a whole bunch of people will leave things to the last minute. thats why I always assume that a last postal date of X actually means a last guaranteed postal date of X-10 or whatever.Win 2008 in 2008 member number.....237!!!
