Trying to cancel Setanta?!
Comments

After a couple of letters to setanta still no joy.Contacted my credit card company and have disputed the payments. Was helped by a lady who refunded my payments and informed me that she would cancel my card. This was to stop setanta drawing any money out of the account. She didn't know what she was talking about! Went into the branch today and the manager made a couple of phone calls. Setanta still taking money,£12.99 now, and if i cancel the card that makes no difference.Even if i close the account and Setanta want some more money, they can! Never set up a dd on a credit card! Another letter is going to be written:mad:
There is no such thing as a DD on a credit card! It is a continuous reccurring transaction which cannot be cancelled unlike a DD which can.0 -
 i am thinking of getting ss for one year thru sky. I have just read this thread and has made me wary, shall i go ahead?
If i follow all your tips will i be ok do you think? Im worried will i pay and then not get a picture? Your thoughts please and sorry to all those who have had problems. It seems to be common place these days with some companiess sadly.:footie:0 -
After being put on hold numerous times i found a number yesterday.Made a phone call today and got straight through to speak to them. They acknowledged that they recieved my letter(the postman must have went on holiday then delivered it)and also gave me a cancellation date. The number is 0191 501 3601.:j0

I am surprised anyone who has read this thread would give any consideration to subscribing to Setanta at all.
I must admit I only ever intended to cancel during the football close season and then resubscribe when it starts again as suggested in one of the MSE newsletters. However given my experience now I would never consider going back to them regardless of the offer.
If you do decide to go ahead and join them the best advice I could give is set up a direct debit with your bank. DO NOT SET UP A RECURRING PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARD which cannot be cancelled by yourself, I speak from experience although beware that if you do ever cancel the DD it may still affect your credit rating if not agreed with Sh#tanta first.
Remember that the cancellation period has been discretely increased from 30 to 60 days and in 99% of instances they insist on having it in writing which in many cases they deny receiving, so always send any cancellation letter recorded/registered delivery that requires signature upon reciept.
I hope the above has given you food for thought and would encourage you to think wisely before getting involved with these people. Each to their own of course we can only speak from our experience.0 -

which I hope is as good as cancelling it. Just waiting for the on-slaught from Setanta now
Have copies of my replies from them stating they will contact me in 5 days which they never have, soooo if they do start harrassing me for money etc. I am going to the press :rotfl:

I have now e-mailed the Directors as shown previously in this thread, had a response :-
We have received your email and will be working on it over the coming days.
