Eugh. Driving home in freezing fog is not nice. Driving home in freezing fog wondering if your boiler is still working is even more not nice. However, I am home safely and I have heat. Woot woot. And tis weekend 💃
I've started Low Spend December as I mean to go on....declined an invitation to join colleagues for a take away lunch and ate my pack up instead.
Two priorities this weekend. 1. Write and post flylady cards and 2. Find my gloves.
Hope you are all safely tucked in and toasty.

busy day at work but walked up to town and back at lunchtime (i don’t often take a lunch hour as such) to go to the haberdashers (white thread) and the cheese shop where i bought some cheese for me and BiL and a cob. That shop does cheese, ham or cheese and ham in 3 sizes of cob with piccalilli or branston pickle and has had the same lunch menu for decades. I used to get my lunch there when i was at technical college on a day release course in my teens!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I used to get my lunch there when i was at technical college on a day release course in my teens! How much are they? I recall when I came 'down sarf' 35 years ago a sandwich (which was in what was called a bread cake) was either cheese, beef, ham, or a hot sandwich of sausage or bacon. Pickle or salad cream were also available as extras but that was about it. Beef was the most expensive, at 50p iirc. On my first day here I went to a sandwich shop and was amazed at the variety of sandwiches, most of which were (to me) exotic mixtures, such as chicken, bacon and avocado. I was amazed by the price too, about £2.50. Today in Pret we had two coffees, an egg and cress sandwich, a chocolate brownie and a mince pie and was nearly 20 quid.I also recall them asking me if I wanted it in bread. I thought, well of course I want it in bread, what else would it be in. I then discovered that 'bread' meant sliced bread as opposed to what I would have called large bread cake, but which they called a bap I think (which to me was something smaller). Two parts of the country divided by a single language.Just so I'm thread compliant, I've made supper, washed up and ordered two boxes of Thornton's Special Toffee as Christmas stocking fillers.11

my ham and cheese with pickle was freshly made and cost me £2.50
I haven’t done any flying but it’s Friday night…Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Very frosty here this morning but gritted teeth and went for a run, which wasn't too bad as the sun came out. I suspect the lake will be jolly cold tomorrow if I'm brave enough to try it.
- 1 load washing done
- bird feeders filled, boiling water put on bird bath to thaw. Found a frozen rat by the side of the house, ick. Didn't do our usual of feeding it to the kite at the end of the garden as Mr N has had to put down poison in the house for the furry 'friends' so we didn't want to poison the kit.
- A bit more of the report done.
- A few more cards written and a present wrapped. Walked to PO and paid a fortune to send a card to Ireland.
- Continued moving things out of the conservatory for the demolition on Monday; I don't envy the men working in this temperature. Kitchen is now full of greenhouse gibble so it's really difficult to find worktop space to do any cooking.
- Opened 1st e-advent window and did an online jigsaw from it.
- Held poles and drew lines etc. to help Mr N sort out my new curtains in the study. A few minor adjustments but he plans to have it all sorted by tomorrow when I'm out swimming and he can actually get at the window without me being in the way on the computer.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.11 -

Morning all xx
It's freezing and foggy. I'm up, made my bed, and I've supped my first brew. My boiler is behaving itself and I'm toasty. Long may it last.
Time for brew 2 before I think about anything else. Join me?
