I had a music teacher who lived in Newland Park, which is lovely isn't it?I don't think I have a Hull accent either (whaart waaan - white wine for the uninitiated lol) and no one has ever said that they thought I came from Hull; I've been down here a long time though. I haven't been to Hull itself for donkey's years and when I do go up it's only to Welton to see my brother and his wife. As a full-time carer I'm pretty much stuck here and can only go somewhere (and then only for the day) if I can get our friend William to come over, but he lives an hour away in Surrey, so it's not that easy. I don't have anyone else I can call on and I don't want to get a paid carer in as A would hate that and I would be worried all day.
I take it as a compliment that I don't sound.. like that! haha. I would wholly support elocution lessons in schools. the local inability to speak properly was definitely a consideration when naming my children. Harriet and Nathalia were never going to work lol.. as someone who has lived their entire life correcting peoples pronunciation of their very simple name I get to say that!
Caring responsibilities are very tying but in all honesty we wouldn't have it any other way

My front room is trashed and the cats are up the tree already!Poor diction is one of my bugbears (I'm a fully fledged grumpy old man lol). My mother was very particular about all sorts of things and diction was one of them so we always had to enunciate properly. I hardly watch the TV but a lot of the people on there mangle their words and I find it very irritating but having good diction now is probably seen as elitist [sigh]. Rant over!Went to church but it took ages to get back as the traffic was terrible. I eventually discovered it was because one of the roads I came back on had roadworks and went down to one lane. If I'd known that I'd have come back via a different route. When I got back I made the bed up after which I Hate Ironing came for my shirts and the tablecloth and duvet. I printed the letter form the knee surgeon which A had received electronically and texted a friend.Time to make supper now: yesterday's lamb casserole converted to soup for A and maybe a Quorn escalope for me if I can be bothered.9 -
