pigpen said:Cloth_of_Gold said:Pigpen, I was born in Hull but moved to London in 1986 and have spent the vast majority of my adult life here. I have a few cousins still there but I don't know where as I am not in contact with them. One used to live in Sutton but I don't know if he still does. I think another lives in Hessle or Willerby but I'm not sure.My lovely aunt and uncle and their daughter left there over 10 years ago and went to live near Ilkely, where their granddaughter lives. They both sadly died several years ago (in their 90s ) but their daughter (my cousin) and her daughter and family still live there and I am in contact with them. The only family members that I still have in East Yorkshire that I'm in contact with is my brother and his wife, who live in Welton.
I do not speak like the average native.. I, and my children, are often asked where we are from haha.. I shipped my husband in from Stockport since everyone else here is related
My brother and his wife had their wedding reception at the university - mind you that was light years ago. I had a music teacher who lived in Newland Park, which is lovely isn't it?I don't think I have a Hull accent either (whaart waaan - white wine for the uninitiated lol) and no one has ever said that they thought I came from Hull; I've been down here a long time though. I haven't been to Hull itself for donkey's years and when I do go up it's only to Welton to see my brother and his wife. As a full-time carer I'm pretty much stuck here and can only go somewhere (and then only for the day) if I can get our friend William to come over, but he lives an hour away in Surrey, so it's not that easy. I don't have anyone else I can call on and I don't want to get a paid carer in as A would hate that and I would be worried all day.Today's flying. I don't like to do much flying on a Sunday but due to yet more incompetence on my part I needed to strip the bed and wash the bedding as the duvet cover needs to be ready for when the laundry company comes between 6 and 7. I don't normally book them for a Sunday but somehow it ended up that way this week. I then put the bedding on to wash, only to discover when I opened the machine door to put it in that I had left in it some socks that I had washed and dried a few days ago! After the bedding had been on for a few minutes I suddenly remembered I hadn't put the water softener in or, more importantly, the washing liquid! To think I once had a responsible job.I had washed the tablecloth after our visitors last Monday but not all the stains had come out so I also re-washed it, but with a slug of bleach. This seems to have done the job and it is now drying on a rack but I will have to give it a quick TD before the laundry company comes so that it's only just a little bit damp, which I imagine makes it easier for them to iron. In among the above I popped out to get the paper and took down a load of recycling (how do two people manage to create so much rubbish and recycling?) All this talk of snow but here it was just cold (but much less so than yesterday) and with some drizzle. I then 'vacc'd' the condensation off the windows with the window vac (a great little gadget), made lunch and am about to wash up.My brother rang and said that their plans to go to a Christmas market in Harrogate yesterday with our Ilkley cousin and her daughter had had to be cancelled because they had freezing fog. Our cousin said they didn't miss much because it was so crowded that you couldn't get to any of the stalls. Any fellow Yorkies go to that?I'm afraid that I was up late so missed the 08.30 mass and was in the middle of things for the 12.15 so will go to the 4.30 at another church.Rountuit, glad your boiler is sorted. Perhaps you should take up a new career as a plumber.Valli - your blanket sounds great for this cold weather. Just imagine how toasty it will be when you actually turn it on.

Hi all
As the name suggests I am a Yorkie CofG but have only been to the Harrogate market once quite a long time ago, and yes it does get really really busy.
Lovely day yesterday out for a brisk walk just me and DS1 then him and GF stayed last night, in fact they are still here but he has to go into work for a couple of hours. We have a chicken in the slow cooker but not sure who needs feeding, will wait and see.
Just been chatting with DH about work and money and the possibility that he might have to change his job if his health doesn't improve. He has earned nothing this month but doesn't see that being the sole breadwinner puts a lot of pressure on me, although I don't mind doing it. Made me feel a bit hurt.
The snow and ice is melting but it's very foggy, it's supposed to rain tomorrow. The car goes in to the garage on Tuesday for MOT and service which means driving over the moors and down a narrow lane which I hate doing even in summer! Fretting about that a bit.10 -

I take it as a compliment that I don't sound.. like that! haha. I would wholly support elocution lessons in schools. the local inability to speak properly was definitely a consideration when naming my children. Harriet and Nathalia were never going to work lol.. as someone who has lived their entire life correcting peoples pronunciation of their very simple name I get to say that!
Caring responsibilities are very tying but in all honesty we wouldn't have it any other way
Festive bush erection complete..
My front room is trashed and the cats are up the tree already!

I'm just pleased when anyone remembers my name no matter how they say it, but have grown up and spent life surrounded by many accents from all around the world.
Presents all wrapped except two I couldn't find and have now reordered. Think they may have inadvertently ended up in the charity shop. Oops.Spend less now, work less later.11 -
Evening all
Hope those who have snow are staying safe and aren't too cold.
Yesterday was so cold all day with freezing fog that I hardly did anything at all apart to nip out with DS to the shops for a short while. I was just too cold even with the heating and the fire blazing.
Today, however, woke up and it was much milder with rain on and off so I've been a busy bee.
WM and TD on x3 each.
DW on x1.
Living room dusted all around and floor swept.
Bathroom sink cleaned and bathroom bin emptied.
New fire rope and glue for the wood burning stove door seal ordered which should be here tomorrow. The existing one has worn and is letting too much air through so the logs are burning too fast.
Joint of beef has been in the SC since lunchtime so that'll be nicely cooked through by dinner time. I prefer my beef cooked that way as I don't like it rare.I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Not all presents are wrapped after all. I quickly hid one of DHs in a drawer when he came upstairs and it's still there. Must retrieve and rehide it.Spend less now, work less later.11
