Unfortunately, I have checked our TV and when I went onto iplayer it logs straight into my account set up years ago but not used by us. She went in via that.
Log the account out, delete the app then it can’t happen again and there is no evidence if TVL come calling (not that you would let them in anyway, having posted here.)

I doubt they have any evidence that a TV was used to access iPlayer, and even if they do, they’d need more than that - it doesn’t prove that you used it. I wouldn’t be surprised if some have had their iPlayer accounts accessed by hackers - passwords are reused, details get compromised and the hacker might as well use iPlayer unlicensed without the trail leading back to them.

You haven’t accessed iPlayer content, you don’t need a licence. Your daughter shouldn’t have used it without checking that you had a licence - usually it asks the question if the app hasn’t been used for some time.

If you're worried about crapita goons coming knocking (why are you?) Then just use any random email address that cannot be tied to you but you have access to for verification , a random date of birth and a random generated postcode

    Nothing to worry about then....

Pl explain that bit. Do you mean any address that I use, eg any bank/gas.....

So tracing an IP is NOT a problem?

Ip addresses are shared between addresses and constantly change plus if worried you can use a vpn

No a random email address like mse@gmail.com which you set up so you can access it but contains no identifiable info about yourself, you need to be able to access it as to use bbc iplayer you have to verify the email address

Pl explain re 'verifyable email address'. I only have one/main, which I could verify, so that one would 'identify' me? If I set up another (how?), that would also identify me surely. Sorry too be a litle dim

all they mean is set up a new outlook or Gmail email address so that when BBC want to verify the address you:re able to click on the link that they email you to verify that you do indeed own that address i.e don't just make an email address up

? but that new address will be mine, as well as the one I always use... so why would I not use my existing one? They can't trace an address from an email address. Still confused, sorry

    I wouldn't worry.

Lucy Frazer was interviewed yesterday about the proposed massive rise in the licence fee (that Our Saviour Sunak is tipped to run his sword through and therefore deliver us from abject poverty- hooray, 3 cheers for Our Masters!!) and she was talking about recognising that "the way we consume media is changing".

sounds like a "media licence" is coming, a quick bit of legislation and your ISP will have to snitch you up if any digital media goes to your address....

:D She didn't even allude to such nonsense in the interview.
Your ISP wouldn't necessarily know if any digital media was being received.
If they ditch the license fee then the best options for them would be to go either the German way (every household is taxed an amount toward PSB's). Or, the Swedish system (Levy a tax to everyone over 18 who pays income tax)....
