when I check my IP address it comes up all over my town and even Ireland
I can put in any old email address - non smart tv. Email gives no idea as to home address
Post code covers 50 odd houses
So do I wait for the 'van' and wear my tin hat?

if you have in the past had a TV license and given them your email address fred@gmail.com and then subsequently say you no longer need a license and then you subsequently sign in to iPlayer using fred@gmail.com they will 'know'.
Will they know you're plugged into the charger at a friend's house with a licence? You'd be covered then by their licence.

My IP address is a different number today and shows 'me' as 50 miles away!
  • There is no evidence that Capita are techie enough to use IP addresses or even email addresses for iPlayer log ins to detect licence evasion. They simply have boots on the ground and continue to employ aggressive sales people to get people to self incriminate on the doorstep.

Detector vans were confined to the scrap heap once it was no longer possible to detect the IF stage of a 405 line television when 625 line TVs came online in 1969/1970. The fear of a "detector van" still lives on but Capita refuse to answer SARs on the topic because they'd like it to stay that way.

Yep crapita simply have a list of addresses in the UK without a tv licence and they simply send out continous letters to them and if by some miracle they turn up on your doorstep , you can simply tell them to go away and never answer any of their questions. You are under no obligation to tell them a thing , once they realise you are not going to drop yourself in it (as that's the only way they can get you) then they will move on to an easier target

Wow. Firstly, it's definitely legit. In their email I had an option to request information the BBC holds on me dating back to 20019. I asked for it and have just received it. The first is a spreadsheet running to 24000 lines! It details device type, browser, internet provider and other information. The second was a smaller spreadsheet with my personal details but also how they have classified me socidemographically!
Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.

If it is Legit and not just farmed off the net then I would be telling them to delete all the info they hold on you , that's incredibly creepy and intrusive
