I have never heard of a tariff that rewards for using off peak energy, i pay per unit kwh whether its day night morning or evening. Do you have a suggestion as someone more knowledgeable than myself?MultiFuelBurner said:
Well then you are already doing your bit for being green and using energy outside of the peak times.[Deleted User] said:I'm starting to think its pointless, first time I made 0p and second time 8p!! Not sure about the last 2 as results not in yet. The problem is it's not my peak time for electricity usage, it may be the uk average peak time but its not mine so hardly worth it. My peak time would be mornings and lunch time, after that hardly use electric. Will see what next 2 results are but if its pennies I just won't bother.
So to that end if you have a smart meter I hope you have a tariff that rewards you for using energy when you do?0 -
Also I'm not really understanding how I'm being green if I use the same or more electricity but just not at the same time as most people, makes no sense to me. 1+1=2 no matter when it is.MultiFuelBurner said:

I actually made £2.09 for 16th and £3.88 for 29th so I’m well happy but I’ve been going to the extreme lol if I’m going to do something then may as well do it properly right? I literally turn every socket off including the fridge as nothing bad is going to happen for 90mins, get the kids led battery light items and light the room we are in, the first time we put the tree up using light from battery lights so didn’t use any electric for the whole hour and the second time we took a slow walk round the shop and when got back just sat with the tv on in the room til the time was up. Easy money really.1

So to that end if you have a smart meter I hope you have a tariff that rewards you for using energy when you do?MFB isn't suggesting that you are saving money, but you're using energy outside of the peak period where the grid is greener. There is a tariff that has lower rates outside the 4pm-7pm peak; it's Octopus Agile. See the big long thread here.
The amount of carbon emitted - the amount of fossil fuel burned - to generte electricity varies during the day. Typically, the highest amount of carbon is emitted during the evening peak.NonStopStress said:

Well done 👏 🥳. It must be normally your peak time cooking washer on etc to be that high, the most I've ever used for 5pm to 6.30pm is 0.15kwh, so even if i switched the whole electricity off most I'd get back is 0.45p! Hardly worth the effort. Glad someone getting something though.Niceonej said:I actually made £2.09 for 16th and £3.88 for 29th so I’m well happy but I’ve been going to the extreme lol if I’m going to do something then may as well do it properly right? Still really cannot get my head around it being greener if the same amount of carbon is emitted but instead of being emitted in say 1 hour that same amount is spread out over the day, the same amount of pollution still exists! I'll read your links at some point maybe I'll be enlightened. I'll look into the octopus tariff but I'm fixed with edf for the time being unfortunately.QrizB said:NonStopStress said:

But the same amount of carbon is not being emitted. It varies by time-of-day.NonStopStress said:Still really cannot get my head around it being greener if the same amount of carbon is emitted but instead of being emitted ...

But surely it only varies because people use more at certain times of day! So if everyone started say a 8am to 9am peak time use instead of 5pm to 6pm use for example, the carbon used in 5-6pm would still be used, but at 8-9am? Am I being thick!QrizB said:

I’m not sure how to reply to individual messages but yes I would usually cook something between those times in the air fryer and have 3 TVs plus a PlayStation on plus lights, heating boiler etc but washing I don’t do every day as I can’t afford it and a lot of the time I set the timer for early morning so it’s done for when I get up. I do have a tumble dryer which uses a lot when it’s on mind and not every wash is done early morning so they probably help a bit.I expect no more that £3-4 each time tbh as I couldn’t use 2kwh unless the event was longer so i can’t see it being any more but happy nonetheless. If I was getting what you were getting NonStopStress then I wouldn’t bother either. I wonder why they invited you to take part if u can’t make much from it anyway x0

Took me awhile to realise you just click "quote" at bottom of the message and add your reply, but I got it anyway.Niceonej said:I’m not sure how to reply to individual messages but yes I would usually cook something between those times in the air fryer and have 3 TVs plus a PlayStation on plus lights, heating boiler etc but washing I don’t do every day as I can’t afford it and a lot of the time I set the timer for early morning so it’s done for when I get up. It all adds up if it isn't much effort for you too, then those £3 soon build up if they do it regularly. Nice to get something back.
I know seemed silly when I realised I couldn't get much back, when it first started I didn't know how much I used on those hours, soon looked into it when I got 8p back lol.
