Is it safe to buy a car from a dealership 100 miles away?

  • Am wondering if the dashcams were fitted incorrectly and have drained it? Or the hybrid part has gone wrong. If i take it in somewhere and its misdiagnosed I might miss the 30 day window.

Terrible news. My car, all of 15 days old , will not open via the app or with both sets of key fobs. No electrics have been left on, its safely in my garage. I called the dealership who said to ring the AA. I am devestated. Am thinking of asking for a refund under consumer credit act. If i send it to be looked at, I may miss the 30 day window. Am weeping.

Obviously this is a disappointment and a worry, but wait until the AA attend and advise on the cause.
As you mention, it may be something simple like the dashcams connected to an always live rather than ignition switched circuit.  Something of that nature would be a foolish mistake for the garage to have made but also easy to rectify and not a reason to reject the car.

  • Thankyou Grumpy Chap. I am worried, my heart rate went up considerably and has stayed . up Do you think theyd know if thats the case? Am worried in case they say something simple, then it happens again, perhaps if I am away from home or not in a safe area, and then i miss my 30 day slot? Thankyou for replying.

You can ask the AA attendant to explain the root cause and provide a bit more detail on the call out report that they will leave you.
If it is a fault with the 12V system, one of the first things the AA will do is to test the battery.
  • After 30 days they have one chance of repair. In any case the clock stops once they are notified (do so in writing) because they would otherwise be incentivised to be slow.

i suspect the dash cams - many people report problems on full hybrids and electrics where the dash cam has been set up incorrectly. These cars have very small 12V batteries by design so get run down easily.

@GoldenOldy, I think this may just be the battery protection kicking in. If so I have described how to resolve this on your other thread.

Car looks lovely and I can tell you that overall I found Hyundai to be a very reliable make. Just avoid some of the dealer prices for replacement parts like wipers, batteries, regas of aircon etc..
I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!
  • The aa have been. Have started it. Had no idea why the battery should be flat. Absolutely gutted. Have lost all confidence now.

Why have you lost confidence?  What did the A A say?  How did they  get  in?   Did you sit in the car with radio on or trying stuff out with out the ready light on?  That would drain the 12v battery very quickly

I thought your problem was unlocking it - nor sorting it.
As photome says - how did they get in / open it?
So no idea from the AA of why the battery went flat?
  • They opened it by taking a little white cover off the door and putting in a little key which was part of my key fob. AA had no idea, but the man said they are very small batteries? When i first got the car, I tried all the bits and pieces with the engine switched on, but then i drove home 97 miles or so. Surely you have time to tune a radio or what have you without draining a battery?
