Is it safe to buy a car from a dealership 100 miles away?

In almost 35 years of car buying, I never once took a car back to the supplying dealer for a repair or service. I’ve even had warranty claims when the car was in a different country to the supplying dealer, they are hardly going to send it on a boat to the supplying dealer are they 😄GoldenOldy said:Oh, Stateofart has worried me now!
Don’t know why that should be an issue.1 -
..as above. You are overthinking it, it won't be a problem!!....if it's the car you want, and its "brand new" just go for it....before somebody else does!!.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."1

Not so for cars.Stateofart said:There is no reason at all to be concerned with buying a brand new car from a dealer that is not immediately local.
It's almost always easier to deal with the original supplier. Believe me, I've dealt with franchises in different towns all supposedly the same...it all goes back to the original supplier and not going to them for any faults can lead to massive delays.Any warranty or service issues can be dealt with by the local Dealership.
Dont forget the franchise - irrespective of which one - are getting PAID by the manufacturer for any warranty work.
They could make more off warranty work and servicing of a car than the supplier did in profit on the new car.2 -
Dont be. Hes wrong. End of.GoldenOldy said:Oh, Stateofart has worried me now!5 -
As an example I purchased a land rover from Nottingham. It has been serviced and warranty items resolved in Peterborough and never gone back to the Nottingham dealership. There was never any issue with thatGoldenOldy said:Oh, Stateofart has worried me now!1 -
that is not the case with a new car under manufacture's warranty it is the company that built the car that pays for warranty repairs not the selling dealerStateofart said:There is no reason at all to be concerned with buying a brand new car from a dealer that is not immediately local.

the dealers maje very low margins on a new car hence they will always try to up sell gap insurance lifetime paint protection and ally wheel insurance any any other extras they can think of
dealers make more money on servicing and warranty repairs than they do selling new cars1 -
don't be worried what he said is not trueGoldenOldy said:Oh, Stateofart has worried me now!
l had a 2019 BMW 440i bought from a dealer about 220 miles from me after 9 months one of the very expensive headlight units failed so l rang my nearest BMW dealer that is about 60 miles from me and they booked the car in completed the repair and all costs were covered under warranty
it was zero fuss and the dealer was not interest in where the car was purchased or why l was taking it to them for repair they knew that the BMW were paying the bill and that is all they were interested in2 -
To give a Hyundai example.
Bought one from a main dealer in Cambridge as a pre-reg, Live 60 miles away, so serviceing and warranty work was done at the Norwich dealer. 3 years with one franchised dealer, they then lost the franchise to another local franchise so it went there.
No issues what so ever.
Does mean you get double the notifications for servicing being due and marketing trying to sell you a new one. Thats about it.
Don't be put off by people applying secondhand out of manufacturer warranty opinions, or just no clue what they are talking about.1 -
Thanks all, I feel much more reassured now . Goodnight .

I would ignore what he saidGoldenOldy said:Oh, Stateofart has worried me now!
franchised dealers will sort any warranty issues on cars bought from anywhere
company/ lease cars will rarely be looked after by the supplying dealer
I think you are overthinking the issue
