It is my vehicle on the NIP, the image is unclear but just readable, there is also a fleet number clearly visible.

So does that mean it's one of your company vehicles, but not yours? Or does it mean it's an unrelated vehicle?

    Can you read the plate?

If the former, get your boss to provide details for the actual driver. If the latter, respond to the police pointing out that your vehicle is AB12 CDE and that vehicle is XY89 FGH.
I believe that I can read the plate, but the vehicle is another of our works vehicles and has a fleet number that is more visible.
Strangely, the email from the police stated that the photo came from "online media footage".
    Thanks everyone.
Which suggests that it might have come from dash cam.

Right. So you can talk to your boss to check what vehicle the police *asked* for. If it's that one, then provide those driver details. If it's yours, then you can reply stating that it's not your vehicle.

    Not necessary.

The S172 has a VRM on it, which is the OP's vehicle, so the Police asked about his vehicle..

The OP's vehicle was not being driven at the time, and the photo shows a different vehicle.

Replying to the S172 as outlined above is sufficient, there is no need for detective work.

Possibly the OP's company bought a job lot of vans, they have similar registrations e.g. AB19 ABC, AB19 ABD etc. and this is a plate mis-read from a blurry dashcam video.  The different fleet number on the van should prove it isn't the OP.
The Police can then go about identifying the correct vehicle.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

It means someone recorded the car on dashcam and reported it to the police with the footage. The clips I used to send in, I would always put a photo (screen cap) of the plate at the end of the footage to make it clear but it doesn't prevent possible errors by the police in inputting the data. No dashcam or helmet camera is perfect and sometimes the weather or angle can make the plate a little fuzzy, I never sent in footage if the plate wasn't readable enough to prosecute.

If a person wants to rag it at 30+ the wrong way down a 1 way 20mph residential street, dang right I am getting them prosecuted!

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I cannot really say the number plate is readable, but it has the fleet number at the top of the rear doors.
The police should never have sent this NIP, as it's just guesswork.
No problem with people reporting crimes.
