I received a letter today, after my employer rang me last week. It's a letter of intended prosecution for failing to comply with red/green arrow/lane closure light signals(not motorway).
The letter states the name of the main road, but I don't know what it refers to.
I was expecting to just take the fine, my employer said it was a speeding fine, which it isn't.
The letter isn't addressed to me, it states the first two letters of my surname, a gap, then the other five letters of my surname. The type is slightly off-set.
I would have thought it would be written by a computer, from my driving license?
As the letter isn't addressed to me, it seems my best option is to ignore it.

That would not be a wise move. It would be an expensive one. You know it refers to you, and you aren't disadvantaged by it. It's simply rectified and you could multiply the fine by many times. The name is correct but spaced incorrectly. It will have nothing to do with your driving licence whatsoever.1

Even computers can make mistakes, or it might be an error with the printing process.
I'd write and ask for them to clarify who the notice is for and where the road it that's referred to. If you can prove you were no where near there then you have a defence.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Was your employer notified because it is a company car, the employer then advised your were the driver and the notice sent to you?
the spelling of your name may have been mistyped somewhere along the line.
Does it give the date of the offence?
Where were you driving on that day?1 -
OP, the only name the police have is the one supplied by your employer.
If it wasn't recognisable as your name, why did you open it?1 -

If it wasn't recognisable as your name, why did you open it?I did read elsewhere that your employer can name a number of people, they wouldn't deliberately get it wrong?I did open the letter thinking it was addressed to me, but it's not just misspelled, it does not include an initial, so it could be my daughter who opened it.It is a company vehicle that I was driving on that day.0 -

If they sent the same person to court, the person addressed in the letter, no one would show up!

Sorry but this is clearly addressed to you there is just a space where a space should not be. If you ignore it you will go from 3 points (or a course and no points) to adding a failure to respond offence which will cost you a further 6 points and a fine of up to £1000. If you already have points on your licence then you will be looking at a ban.2

If the uncertainty is due to a lack of record-keeping, then the responsible person(s) may also be charged, and face six points and a fine, costs etc.0 -
Playing a silly so and so could well cost you 6 points amongst other nasty surprises1
