Bank cards have a signature, haven't signed it for god knows how long,no one checks.
My DL has had the same signature since it went to photo I'd,my signature is now different, again never been asked, been stopped by the police they have never asked me to sign anything to check.
As for why it's there,no one cares (because they don't look) most likely get a massive overspend on cost if the DVLA go to change it.

Why include the signature on the licence if it is so small it can't be read by the naked eye.
    You're asking the wrong people.
It's there. A few are apparently concerned by its size. Most don't give a monkeys...

    /shrug/
The right people to ask told me there wasn't a standard for the signature.

I give up. I wish I could find out why the signature is still on the licence when it's so tiny no one can read it.
I will report it as lost and pay for a new one.
And what happens when that comes exactly the same? Will you report that lost too?
    And so on?

Nobody has agreed it's an issue so not sure why you are trying to make it one.
The other licence was lost when I returned it to DVLA  on their request. Why would I report another one lost if it is not. I will have to pay for another one, it's not free.

    Signatures have to be readable?
Would you accept a cheque or a £10 note that didn't have a readable signature?

Eh? I've been signing cheques with an unreadable signature for 40-odd years.
Making it bigger wouldn't change anything.

The point is that many signatures are unreadable, but it should be the same one every time. Needing a magnifying glass is a different issue. I need reading glasses, perfectly ok, but how small is this signature?

I'm really not sure what point you think you're making.
My driving license has a small signature on it, so it's invalid?

Yes, mine is also very small... so what, it makes no difference because that doesn't prove my identity.

OK, and what happens when the new one has the signature the same size? Will you continue buying new ones until its to your satisfaction?

I have just looked at some of my old driving licenses, some are normal, but one signature is almost half the size, compared to fonts 6-8 vs 12
