One year I got a candle holder (very nice) from SIL and a Teapot/cup for one from MIL.
Not bad at all compared with other years.............but the next year I get the same candle holder from MIL this time and a Teapot/cup for one from SIL.They always do their shopping together
I told OH I was going to put the candle holders on the fireplace like wally dugs:rotfl:
Worst pressie so far...................a Millenium journal at the Millenium that you filled in with family details etc (then presumably bury in the garden)only just beats the penguin ornament painted with hideous flowers!
Just to be safe I asked for vouchers this year!!!:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0 -

To make this worse, the pegs had been wrapped in box that had been for an answerphone - we HAVE to visit them to get our gifts, they won't mail them. So did an Oscar winning performance with every gift, and at this one was stumped as we have an answerphone - I was thanking her when she said "I'd look inside" and then saw the pegs, really glad I do the presents with them totally sober!

Thanks mumoftwo - must be the Scottish sense of humour!
After several years of this - when I have been plagued for a Christmas List that I MUST send them, and then it is ignored, even although I write down the shops within their town where they can buy them (I gave up asking for internet purchsed gifts early on) I have negotiated that money is fine - I would happily have vouchers for most high street places, but even that is a chore, so it's a cheque!
But I still have to go with partner and collect it - similar to wanting publicity when getting a lottery cheque I presume!
And there are always the "little" presents to look out for - I have asked for aromatherapy stuff this year (as I have for the last 5 years) and hope this year may be the breakthrough, or I may get a Glade Plug-in(cat shaped naturally), I'll keep you posted!Give yourself a Chistmas bonus £14 a week!
Total so far £280 -

I wouldn't count on it, but I admire your optimism :rotfl:0 -
I may be able to top all of these
As some background, I'm a Liverpool fan, my pops is a Man Utd fan and my mum (they split up ages ago but still get along brilliantly) hates football.
Last year she got him a football-themed christmas card (present too, but the card is the key). When I returned from uni and visited him, I looked over at his dvds, past the several Man Utd dvds and my eyes fell upon said card.
Father noticed my confused expresion and informed me it was from my mother, at which point I asked, "but why did she get you an Arsenal Christmas card?!?"
When I mentioned this to her later she was appalled at wat she had done and explained it thus, "well, I know Man Utd play in red, so when I saw the red kit I thought it was his team..." "Mum, I support LIVERPOOL!"so, how did I score?

I had a friend once, who was in his 30s. His mother gave him one year, a comb; and a chocolate santa claus with its head caved in.

I once got a cake of soap from my SIL. I saw one the same in the chemist and it had cost £13 - and that was way back in the mid-80s! It was too dear to use. I've still got it and it has my now 23yo son's baby teeth marks in it.
I can't throw it out now, cos it's sentimental.
She's never consistant with her presents. My mum got the smallest compact mirror ever, one year. The following year she got a set of pots and pans.0 -

When he received a hood we were flabbergasted! Just a hood! He is 14 and when they asked if he liked his pressie he said " Well, its a bit weird!"
Obviously no thought gone into that one. I spend hours thinking and planning what to buy everyone and i don't think many do when it comes to us.
I never knew you could buy just a hood! Was it unzipped from some anorak or something?Maybe it was a snood. :rotfl:

My ex sis-in-law once got me hair straighteners - even though she babysat while I went to get a perm! She was also guilty of buying nylon nightdresses at the cash and carry for everyone in the most garich colours you can imagine.
Secret Santa pressies at work are as bad. The first year I got a light up flashing wine glass - I don't drink! Last year it was a pink pebble type bracelet thingy - I am the least pink pebble bracelet person you will ever have come across. This year I decided to have my gallbladder removed instead and it was a far more pleasant experience. You wouldn't mind but we choose the name of our Secret Santa in September to give everyone time to look for a funny and appropriate gift.0 -
