There is no requirement in the letter of the terms that Blue Rewards must remain active beyond the date you met all the requirements (i.e. after the switch completed), only the account itself must remain open until the incentive is paid. However, I considered it a bit risky to end Blue Rewards. I think they will ultimately have to uphold your complaint if you were told it was ok by a member of staff.
It sounds like there are a few who will be getting at least £175 in compensation in place of the incentive.

Blue rewards, for what it is must be one of the most  verbose finicky pieces of financial pedantry ever written all for a basic you give us £5 and we give you £5 back. Or in my case they don’t give me back my £5 because I didn’t pay out a second DD due to not having a calendar month of membership.

There was some discussion whether the fee/reward was paid in arrears or not. I was also charged the fee but DD hadn't paid out as the switch was after the DD date. Waiting to see if I get it paid for December instead.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Completed switch without hitch. Paying in £800pm, two direct debits and had £5 deducted for Blue Rewards (4th Dec). Now received the £175 bonus.
When and where will I get my £5 Blue Rewards refunded?
Can the Blue Rewards be safely cancelled at anytime or does that mess things up?
    TIA

You can safely cancel Blue Rewards now.

Why do you think the £5 Blue Rewards fee will be refunded? It will not be, unless you can convince customer service to waive it with a goodwill gesture.

Had an email this morning telling me I'd qualified for the £175 incentive and it was paid on the 13th December...well i already knew that cos I've moved the money out, cancelled the Blue stuff and started a switch to Nationwide.

My understanding is you should receive the Loyalty Reward of £5 on the second working day of the next calendar month, provided you still have at least two direct debits and haven't already cancelled Blue Rewards
  • Just to re-iterate, the Blue Rewards fee is always charged - it is never refunded.

As a part of Blue Rewards (but completely separate from the monthly fee), you can get a £5+ reward each month if you meet certain conditions - pay in £800, pay out 2x DDs, etc.

The net effect is that the £5 reward payment cancels out the £5 fee, but it's not a refund. If you don't qualify for the rewards in a given month the fee will still be taken.
  • Has anyone who switched in November, and who's met the criteria, had the Blue Rewards £5 payment into their BR wallet?
What day does the Blue Rewards £5 payment go into the wallet?

I switched on 22 Nov, and received the £175 switch incentive on 13 Dec.
Two DDs went out from the Barclays current account on 11 and 14 Dec, and the £800 credit went in on 1Dec.
The BR £5 fee went out on 2 Dec; I haven't had the £5 reward into the wallet yet, and hence wondered about the date it goes in, before I cancel BR.
