If it is free, take it & use it
    It's £20 for a year card, £54 for a 3 year card.

I have epilepsy and qualify but wouldn't get one for epilepsy if my circumstances were as yours are.

     Here is the criteria...

    Have epilepsy

You either have repeated attacks even when receiving drug treatment; or are currently prohibited from driving

But do you get PIP as you can qualify that way.

Unless the person gets PIP, and it would appear they may not be eligible anyway.

“A copy of your Exemption Certification for epilepsy medication and a photocopy of your letter from the DVLA telling you that you are unable to drive”.
You don't need PIP , I have epilepsy and have previously had the rail card during the period my licence was revoked. You have to prove you are on epilepsy meds and unable to drive but you definitely don't need to be on disability benefits

No need to be a martyr. They make you renew your license every three years, so have that railcard.
If you are able to drive you can't get it. I've had one before and it's only for people who are unable to drive because of the epilepsy. If you are seizure free for a year you can renew your licence so wouldn't be eligible

It's not free, but if they are still able to drive (seizure free) you arent eligible

If you have a driving license then you are not entitled to the disabled person's rail card.   The rules state to qualify, you must have epilepsy and 'You either have repeated attacks even when receiving drug treatment; or are currently prohibited from driving.'

That's misleading. I have a driving license and i've had a disabled persons railcard in the past.
I have too but only when my licence was revoked
  • Yes you should uze it as you are eligable to do so. Either put difference in cost into a savings account or give it to a charity of your choice

I'm hard of hearing and wear hearing aids. This doesn't impair my ability to do anything but it does entitle me to a disabled persons railcard which gives me, and someone travelling with me, a third-off all rail fares including at peak hours. You have to purchase the card (£67 for 3 years when I last did it).

I occasionally travel to London for work so only pay £37.05 for a Travelcard as opposed to around £50. We went on holiday to Cornwall in September - £200.00 for the both of us rather than £300

And I do understand your dilemma as I feel a touch of guilt when I don't consider myself disabled, but it's not a freebie and I meet the eligibility criteria so why wouldn't you buy one and use it?
  • I think not.
    Are you sure you qualify?
having a test every three years, doesn’t sound like your licence has been removed, which I think is a condition of the illness, or condition.
