Well done on the job offer!! I hope the negotiations work out. I might have missed this if you’ve mentioned it earlier, are the other benefits good ie flexi-time and commutes?I’m sorry to hear about the bfs dad, that’s awful for him. Sounds a bit mean but it can be very emotionally draining trying to support someone’s grief (especially if they want their space), so make sure you look after yourself!!About 28k of debt to deal with…1

Good news about the job - will they train you a well for the ‘missing bit’ or am I confused ?Sorry to hear about your BF dad, it’s never a good thing saying good bye. How’s his mum doing ?Sealed pot challenge 822

Thanks for your comments - both re job and bf.
His mum seems to be very very slowly making some progress with her speech @dawnybabes - but it will be a slow recovery. Thankfully bf has an older half brother, so he has still be around to check in on their mum whilst he and his sister are coping with the dad situation too. I've just spoken to bf and his dad has picked up a bit today but it still might be today/ tomorrow - at most a few weeks. Horrible limbo situation for them though. He said he will definitely be staying up there until Thursday.
Re the job - they have come back with an offer. Salary stays at £45k but with a review after 6 months (end of probation) and a guaranteed bonus of £3k payable next February. So I think I'm going to accept - although already feel sick at the prospect of handing in my notice - my bosses have been incredible to me over the past 9 years, so it will be sad to leave.
@birdsfoottrefoil - it's in the office 1/2 days a week - longer commute but I'm currently in the office 5 days a week, unless I have a reason to wfh (i.e. an appointment). So it kind of evens out over a week if that makes sense!
@dawnybabes - I have the option of being trained and they will help if I want to go down that road. Need to consider it more as other than helping me get another job in the future, I'm not sure what it will actually do for my career as I think I can be great at my job without it!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

joedenise said:@twiggy86 - you should never turn down training even if you don't think will enhance your current job role. No one knows what the future holds so may come in useful later on.
Totally agree. These days job roles change all the time. More training equals more opportunities available.1 -
Couldn't bf's ex have their children this weekend, to take the pressure off? I'm sure he'd do it for her if the situation were reversed.
Congrats on the job offer, and well done for pushing for an increased starting salary. Definitely opt for the training, it rarely goes to waste, and shows your are serious about your career (both now and in any future job searches). What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Great point re the training!
@satchmo1 - I'm sure they could work something out if really necessary (particularly the 15 year old who has reached the aged of not always coming over when scheduled!), but he only has them every other weekend and really cherishes the time.Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

I agree regarding the training. If they will pay then take the chance as it will help with salary negotiation in future as well. Maybe see how you feel after your 6 month probationary period and check if there's any clauses. I.e some companies say you have to work for them for 2 years after etc or they charge you for it

I emailed to accept the job offer, so now just waiting for the formal offer, further details etc. They were out on a team day today, so said it may be tomorrow that it comes through. So I won't be handing in my notice (which I'm dreading) until it's all formalised.
I also just had a message from bf to say that his dad is doing slightly better again today and thinks he isn't looking after himself properly at home and gets confused, which is why he had deteriorated so much. So it now seems him may be discharged - either to home with care or (as bf would prefer) a hospice. It is all still only a matter of weeks but possibly not as imminent as was previously thought. Such a roller coaster for them all.
I popped to Tesco for a couple of bits and managed to talk myself out buying something for dinner! I had taken a previously homemade chilli out of the freezer, so I was good and had that with some rice. Tonight will be chicken stirfry as have a chicken breast that needs using! I will need to buy some bread and milk - which I intentionally didn't buy yesterday to ensure it stays fresh for longer. I will probably just have some toast for dinner tomorrow as I have acro and then believe the plan is still for bf to come back on Thursday so will work out a plan as not sure what time he'll be home.
Little list for today...- Make lunch to take to work
- Update spreadsheet
- Work on knitting at lunch - but made an error (again!) and debating pulling it all out and starting again, however I am slowly improving!
- Do a 30 minute clean
- Sort one area around the house
- Dinner from stores
- Sew button on jacket
- Make daily hexi

Congratulations on the new job, I agree you should not hand in your resignation until you have a formal offer.
Well done on resisting buying dinner last night it would have been so easy.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
