Well I took the plunge and purchased the phone!!! The money came out of the "misc savings" pot... when I first started building this up it was with a view to potentially paying off ex so it feels good to use it on myself! My current phone is secondhand and I bought it over 4 years ago, and have wanted a new one for ages so can't say it was a frivolous spend - although it feels it slightly at the moment!!!
I may make a small CC overpayment to help balance the guilt!!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)1 -
I wouldn't call that frivolous if you need a new phone, but absolutely make a cc payment too!
You know what we all think about you paying off your ex so I won't say anything
(other than having just pointedly mentioned it 😂)1 -
Very true @PennysIntoPounds - it did weirdly feel like a middle finger up to him spending it on myself!!!
Acro was fun last night and I did pay the lowest amount for the class (£7). I also got my friend to order me a phone case using her prime account to avoid paying for postage. New phone should be ready to collect on my way - got it delivered to a local store so I didn't miss the delivery.
Today's bits and bobs:- Use chicken breast I cooked last night to make a wrap for my lunch
- Update spreadsheet
- Make small CC payment
- Check to see roughly what I might get to trade in my current phone - looks like about £17!!!
- Check vinted as posted something last week but haven't had an update yet weirdly (only £1.50 due to me!)
- Fingers crossed collect new phone on way home from work
- Fingers crossed manage to set up new phone and transfer everything from old phone (wish me luck!!!)
- Make burgers for dinner and some for the freezer
- Park for free at netball tonight

£17 is a good bonus to take off the credit card debt, it all adds up!1

Happy Friday!!!
Got my new phone! Still in the process of setting it all up - for example, need to work out how to log into to two of my bank accounts. But happy I finally took the plunge and bought one! Although of course, now my headphones don't work with it, so will have to purchase some new ones at some point!
I ended up cooking some chicken that needed using and popping the mince in the freezer for another time - I could have made the burgers and then froze but I couldn't be bothered!!!
I have quite a lot planned for the weekend - determined to have fun but be mindful re money! Tonight I'm going to play crazy golf with bf and then probably grab something to eat out - I've booked the golf (£22). Then tomorrow I'm heading to Bath with some friends - having lunch at a lovely restaurant and a mooch around. Friend is driving but will give her petrol money. Then Sunday is a local chilli and cheese festival (weather dependent) - I think it costs £8 to get in. So all of that will probably use up most of my "fun money" - however, I did keep back the intended CC overpayments as a buffer this month. I did make a CC payment of £50 to lessen the guilt of buying the phone - however that still leaves me with £75 "spare" plus my buffers.
Today's plan of bits and bobs:- Load of washing on 30 degree quick wash
- Hang washing on airer
- Use cooked chicken to make wrap for lunch
- Update spreadsheet
- Work out how to log into bank accounts!
- Drive tonight to avoid taxi costs on top of other spends

Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)2 -
Don't you just love how they build in obsolence into everything. Somehow nothing new ever works with whatever you had before. It always feels like such a scam.

Happy Monday!
Had a brilliant weekend - a bit spendy but worth it! It may mean that I have to utilise some of the buffer - but reminding myself that that is exactly why I have buffers and not to feel guilty about it!
So Friday played crazy golf with the bf and we were going to have dinner whilst in town as "it felt like we should" - however neither of us were particularly hungry so we grabbed a drink in a bar and then had a burger from MacDonalds on the way home! (And yes I won at golf!) Saturday went to Bath with some friends and had a really lovely, chilled day and some amazing food! I did buy some denim shorts as the "break up diet" means that all my summer clothes are now two sizes too big! Then yesterday bf didn't feel well so cancelled our plans to go out, so went to the beach with some friends instead! Took a packed lunch so only cost was parking. Then bf cooked me dinner last night as he was feeling better by that stage. So a busy one!!!
So on to today's bits and bobs:- Make lunch to take to work
- Update spreadsheet with weekend's spends
- Snap a receipt from the weekend
- Dad at mine re-sealing around the shower (I attempted it last year but it's developed a leak as I obviously didn't do a very good job!)
- Start thinking about a balance transfer as part of one of my CC's will start accruing interest next month
- Sit in the garden after work to enjoy some of the sunshine!
- Bf possibly coming to mine and cooking me dinner tonight! If not I will cook something I already have in

I ended up going out for dinner to a local pub with bf last night which he paid for! Very kind of him. So yesterday ended up being a NSD.
I did get some "unsettling" news this morning (I can't quite place my feelings so that seems like the best word at the moment) - my ex's dad has passed away. He had been given a terminal diagnosis with a limited time frame so it wasn't unexpected. But given the past year, I can't quite work out how I feel at the moment. Of course, my amazing bosses have been great this morning and took me out for a cup of tea and have told me to leave early today so that I can process. It seems heartless/ selfish to say but it has made me concerned that if ex is thinking about money (i.e. inheritance) it may re-open the money conversation with me - which is just something I don't want to have to deal with. So as I said, mixed emotions this morning.
However, on to today's list:- Make lunch to take to work
- Pop load of washing on 30 degree quick wash
- Work on crochet present at lunch
- Pop to shop for a few bits for dinner - bf meant to be coming over
- Hang washing on airer
- Sit in the sunshine and think

That doesn't sound heartless or selfish at all, I'm sorry for his loss but your ex is a manipulative freeloader so you're right to be on alert as to how he might try to use this situation to take advantage of you or be able to have his behaviour excused.
I hope you have a nice day thinking things through and getting your boundaries and contingency plans straight in your head1 -
