The death of an ex's parent can be extremely difficult to manage/cope with. I loved my FIL, but fortunately I had no problems with ex as our split happened about 15 years previously, so the nastiness of the split was well and truly over by the time FIL passed. Ex's sister, on the other hand, was as poisonous as ever. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?1

Well yesterday was a weird emotional rollercoaster...
I texted ex saying "sorry to hear about your dad" to which he responded explaining how they were trying to sort a hospice for him. In other words, the information I was given was wrong and whilst he had taken a turn for the worst and it won't be long, he hadn't yet passed. So a very confusing day, but I am very pleased my text didn't say "sorry to hear you dad has passed away" as that would be truly awful.
I have had a bit of a spendy month on clothes - which is very unlike me. I've been justifying that I need new summer clothes as many of mine are now too big, which is true, but I do need to reign myself in. I do have a sinking fund for clothes - but that now sits at a minus!!! I bought myself some sandals in Tesco yesterday when actually I was looking for a new bag - genuinely needed as the strap is literally hanging on by a thread on my current one!!
Anyway, now I've confessed re clothes, let's get focused on today's bits and bobs:- Take leftover pasta to work for lunch (might get two days out of it)
- Snap receipts from yesterday (should do this on day of purchase as I get a few extra points!)
- Update spreadsheet
- Shuffle money to correct accounts
- Make a start on June's budget
- Put together details of balance transfer options to see if one is better than the others
- Try and finalise crochet birthday present on my lunch break
- Find a free pattern for my next scrappy crochet project
- Pay lowest amount at acro tonight

As soon as I pressed "post" on the comment above, I received a text from the ex requesting "some money"! At least it proves that I was right in my suspicion that this situation may crop up! It's time like this when I wish I was an angry/ heartless person and could easily tell him to "do one"... but unfortunately that's just not how I was wired and so it's tough for me to manage.Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

Lol 'some money'. Reply that, as previously discussed, if he believes there is money owing to him then his solicitor needs to provide a breakdown of services and investments he feels are chargeable to you. You will then ask your solicitor to review that and send a counter review of the rent and car use he owes. Do not send him a penny unless he actually invests in making a legal claim, you're not an ATM for cheating opportunistic manchildren.4

I knew you'd give me encouragement @PennysIntoPounds and it is very much appreciated! Maybe I can just give you his number and you can manage all correspondence for me!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

A simple "no" would suffice! What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?2

Tell him you would like some rent and some payment for the car. Then tell him to take "some money" off that amount and send you the rest.Aiming to make £7,500 online in 20224

I'm with @PennysIntoPounds on this one. You are not a cashpoint so time to harden your soft heart.

He didn't pay his fare share and you supported him. He owes you, regardless of his dad's health. Tell him politely to do one.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
