Received an email at 811am to say that they had received dad’s probate application and that it could take up to 16weeks . At 1041am I received another email saying probate had been granted and paperwork would be with me in 10 days🤣. Talk about super efficient. Hopefully we can the house on the market either before or after Christmas.Feeling very under the weather today, but OH is feeling a lot better. Unfortunately the youngest is feeling ill, which pretty much means their holiday is over. Hopefully it’s just a 48hr bug.Love 🐞

Excellent timing on probate, not so good on whatever it is that's making you all poorly. I hope you all feel well again soon.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Having the house ready to go on the market in the new year would be good - not many people will be looking in the run up to Christmas.Sorry to hear about youngest, hope they feel better soon.KKAs at 15.07.25:

Excellent news on the probate with timing as good as 9 years ago. What do the estate agents say as I wondered if some people might use the Xmas/New Year break to look if they aren't working then.

Time now to heal, reenergise, grieve and start feeling joy in the worldDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks cherryfudge, KK , badmemory, beanielou and lwap.So the mortgage is officially gone from my account🍾🥳Time to think of the next stage. I did consider moving to another board, but this is home.
Currently the only pension I will get will be my state pension. Oo tell a lie I have a pension that will pay me about £900 a year🤣.Col has highlighted that this may not be enough to comfortably live on. I’ve checked I can pay £2880 into a private pension a year. I think I have about £1800 left from my inheritance. So I will don a fresh pair of frugal pants, pull them up and try and save the additional £1000 before the new tax year starts in April. Subsequent years I will have to save the whole lot. Although next year dad’s house will hopefully sell and next years will be covered. The rest of my inheritance will be used for a new (cheap) kitchen (ours is falling apart), solar panels and battery ( we are very eco minded), pay an electrician ( various lights, sockets etc need sorting ), join the gym for 3 months and what’s left will be used to pay for wood for raised beds at the allotment.OH has finally agreed that we really need to declutter the house and garage. Hopefully I will be able to sell the majority of it and put that in the pension pot. Other areas to look at will be obviously trying to get best deal on bills etc, cutting food budget by boosting allotment productivity and eating less ( good for the waistline )reducing energy use, reducing petrol bill, consider the amount we go away as we do love going away (especially as the youngest actually prefers to be at home), clothing mostly come from cs - maybe reduce how often I pop in, hmmm think that’s a big enough list for now.The plan for today was to get out for a big walk but the youngest is still very poorly. OH going for an explore and I’ll stay here. Horse riding and visiting the eldest is cancelled for tomorrow. We will just head straight home. I’ve enjoyed my holiday but could of done with us all not being ill.Love 🐞

Did lots of lounging, flopping and mooching in the cottage today whilst the youngest coughed their guts up. Glad we’re going home tomorrow. No money spent. Looked up private pension companies today and chosen one. Unfortunately I couldn’t remember my NI number, so unable to make a one off payment to start with.Love 🐞
