Funnily enough I called at our local telephone box swap book place and collected several 📚Great minds think alike kk and idreamofplants thanks for your suggestions.
Mum and I went to the town where water bubbles out the ground today and dropped off dads old sailing clothes etc at the specialised sports charity shop. We then went onto look round the shops. Did end up with expensive tasteless cake 🍰 which was a disappointment. Really enjoyed looking round the vast array of independent shops, old buildings and the gardens. Best of all the weather was good. I’ve seen a beautiful glass lamp that I am considering buying as a present from dad to remind me of him. It reminds me of the sea.🌊 Especially since most of my inheritance is going to pay off the mortgage.Almost all jobs done, buying a new toilet seat is rolling over for the 4th day though.Frugalness for today
1. Used natures tumble drier 💨
2. No heating on but electric blanket is on instead
3. wm, dw and 🚙 switched on when cheap tariff on.
4. 4 new books to read.
5. Sold 2 more items on vinted
6. free exercise- walked around town, miss giddychops and 🧘♀️.
7. OH has checked all the batteries from dads, we now have a huge box of potential and small box of duds.8. Tea contained our dried beans from last year and courgettes from the plot
Tomorrow the plan is to strip the wallpaper in the dining room and fill in the holes.

The lamp would probably be a real treasure. Perhaps ring the shop and ask them if they'd reserve if for you for a few days?
And it's lovely that your Dad's things can go to people who can use them for their own love of sailing.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Thanks beanielou and cherryfudge I think I’m going to go back and get it😊Youngest struggling to get up this morning but nothing new, we have this every year at this time of year. They are constantly cold in college even though they are wrapped up. They are constantly tired as they get back into a new routine. They are constantly making excuses not to go in. Me, I’m constantly cajoling, counselling, prompting and if all else fails dictating. The latter I hate doing as they are an adult, but sometimes it’s called for. Their mood can literally turn on the flip of a coin. They are now up and focused. Literally changed what they are doing as I wrote this short post🤣.Hey ho focus on the positive

I do feel for your youngest - I'm not a morning person and spent the first half of my life avoiding the cold. The habit persists but the cause is sorted. In my case it was an underactive thyroid. The other thing that is reminiscent of me is the change avoidance. Is there something they really want to avoid or is it the sheer difficulty of getting out of the warm comfort of home and out into the cold, challenging environment outside?
However, I also feel for you as a mum.It doubles your work and halves your time when you have a young adult who isn't motivated to get a move on!
I hope the lamp is everything you hope, what a nice way to remember your Dad.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I think your holiday is well deserved LB after your year.
Would a SAD lamp benefit the youngest? I struggle myself at this time of year with the darker days and have a SAD lamp which really helps me. I think having something to remind you of your dad is a wonderful idea, I have only something really small and worthless really of my nan's but to me it is sentimental and worth lots, I remember her every time I walk by it (just a mass made generic porcelain ornament from the 70/80s).MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. It is just sheer difficulty getting out of bed cherryfudge. They have an electric blanket this time of year as it helps with their stiff legs (cerebral palsy). They’ve also complained that college is cold. They did put extra layers on yesterday and felt a bit warmer. We’ve ordered an electric foot warmer ( on offer) which hopefully will help with their cold feet when they get home. I suspect the cold feet is probably due to poor circulation and mobility issues. Not sure a sad lamp will help dfwb321 as I think it’s more to do with their disability and seasonal changes (temp) than mental health but it’s is something I will monitor just in case. Thank you both for your suggestions. I find when people make suggestions that it prompts me to explore other avenues/solutions😊.
Yesterday was a tale of 2halves mood wise. Morning super up beat, Did a tip run and stripped the wallpaper . Afternoon felt really down running through old bad memories of life with dad and current feelings towards my sibling. Anyway that was yesterday need to focus on today and motivate myself to actually get up out of bed.

Would youngest be able to sit close enough to a socket in college that a (small) heated blanket might help? The downer yesterday afternoon sounds like psychological ’housekeeping’ (the back of my head is doing similar atm … 😉), so perhaps do t worry about it for now. If you get stuck in it or it becomes intrusive, you might consider counselling for it - not yet though 😊
Well done on the tip run and the wallpaper stripping 😊👏
Are you going to repaper or paint this time?
