Very few bargains in Lidl, pretty much everything Christmassy was around 15% off with the odd thing 50%.
Much the same here. I've shopped at Waitrose, Aldi and a large independent supermarket since Christmas and found almost no worthwhile reductions. Yesterday, only an hour before closing for two days, the independent had meat that will be on its final day when they re-open but they still had no reductions. Rosa Damascena commented earlier that the days of seasonal price cuts have passed, I think she was right.

  • Our local Aldi was giving away free vegetables on Christmas eve.

I bought my Son's a bar of Milky bar Speculoos which was reduced to 63p in Tesco.

I would have been v tempted by the mince pies, even though I know how bad they are for me! So just as well I didn't go looking for them.

For me cheap food somehow undercuts any resolve to be healthy! The jump in food prices has actually been a good thing for me in that regard, I am less tempted to buy UPFs as (with the exception of the bargain 2p mince pie illustrated above) even when YS they are not hugely cheap.

Agree with you @Rosa_Damascena. If a university did a research study for a year, feeding healthy people special offers and YS food only, I bet they would put on a lot of weight. I notice that a lot of Tesco offers, for example, are for sweets and chocolate.

  • I'm after a decent paper diary to supplement my online activities, has anyone seen any A5 page to a day reduced? The closest I could find to what I wanted was in Poundstretcher but at A4 it wasn't exactly handbag-friendly so I was reluctant to part with £7 for it.

I always got mine in The Works, if there's one near you. £2.25  but expensive shipping if you can't shop in store.

Thanks. My next stop tomorrow was Poundland and The Works - was hoping that now we're into 2024 I might get one cut price.
