Nationwide rebranding

Months on and I still haven't got used to the new icon on the iPad. Even after I moved the NatWest icon further away the Nationwide one just doesn't seem to stand out when I'm looking for it. That's probably an indicator of poor design.3

Doubtless will go down in history as one of the biggest fails of rebranding. This thread's longevity is a testament to that.
I still see only a big angry orange pacman.3 -
On the NW front page (even their initials are the same as NatWest I notice) there is a logo that would have been much better as their main logo:

@MACKEM99 I don't use NatWest, never have so I wouldn't know what the app/website is like. NatWest have a branch in my local high street and lots of people have always been complaining or having issues so I've stayed clear.

You just know this rebrand won’t last beyond 5/10 years. The Pac-Man era. No doubt the next rebrand will be return to values or roots or some such corporate nonsense. Nationwide have paid a company silly money for this. Sometimes I start to warm to it, but then I remember the old brand and how good it was! Nationwide can’t go back yet they need to save face.2

They seem to be presenting themselves as a bank, using the "a good way to bank" slogan and copying NatWests logo and colour scheme.
They are also very old fashioned and seem to be focusing on older customers, saying they'll keep branches open and making no effort with their app. It might work now but I can't see how they can keep going if they are so.slow at modernising themselves.1 -

For a rebranding that was apparently such a flop, it's done a decent job of keeping people talking for the past few months, hasn't it!
I don't dislike it - no issues with the logo, although in fairness I wouldn't touch NastyWest with a bargepole borrowed from the owner of the Guinness World Record Holding Longest Barge Pole in History, so there's no issues for me with them being similar. Personally though I don't think they ARE that similar - different coloured backgrounds, for a start. Then again I also don't have many issues with the app - and will shortly have even less issues now they have announced that they're scrapping the requirement for the wretched card reader to be used. (That being the thing that made me switch our main joint current account away from them a few years ago).🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
