Just caught up with your thread, another here going to be 60 in a few month's time. I hadn't realised I would be entitled to free prescriptions and free eye tests. I don't shop at Boots or B&Q very much but will definitely bear those in mind and I'm also going to get a Senior Railcard. Thanks also to the poster who mentioned dropping a day at work and taking into account the reduced pension/NI payment for doing that. Just waiting for my pension statement to come through - I plan to keep working but dropping a day would be very nice.
Edit - just spotted that you can get 10% discount at Iceland on Tuesday - another one I don't go to but good to know.Mortgage 31May est. £183,500 £244,947, Ends Jan'38 Jun'39 (target Feb'31)

my pension information from my last employer has come in and I have my projections for my current employer. I've a telephone meeting with someone from Pensionwise on Friday then I'll check my spreadsheet to see if early retirement in May is definitely on the cards 🙂 I don't think I'll be able to go part time where I currently work and TBH not sure I want to. Just need to sort the budget out and check which option to chose with my pension

I'm already 60. Do I not pay for prescriptions? I didn't know that. EDIT: Oh, it's clear here: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/prescriptions-and-pharmacies/who-can-get-free-prescriptions/Gem-gem said:If you live in London / Greater London you can pay £10 a year and get an Oyster 60+. This entitles you to free travel after 9:30am on trains, buses and tube all within Greater London. My husband saved a fortune each year. The first year, both him and his friend went on days out travelling around the underground going to the end of the lines and riding different train lines.Hopefully it will still be around when I reach sixty.
I was excited about this until I noticed that you have to live in London to qualify for this.5 -
@RHemmings - the age exemption is applied automatically so you wouldn't be at risk of paying accidentally.
Pension pots are now unlimited so I wouldn't be tempted to pull back early. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
