My theory has always been, the more expensive the wedding, the shorter it lasts. Maybe in India they don't have a choice but to stick together longer.

Are we being cynical or merely realistic? I don't think I'm that old (early 50s) but I guess I am when I realise how my thinking has developed since my younger days. I read an article about "Staceys" this morning and was shocked at the lengths people go to in pursuit of "enhancing" their looks. Look nice by all means, but this kind of extremism feels like a complete waste of time.

Had a bit of a giggle at Lidl.

Was doing my shopping and there was a young woman wearing her gym chic outfit - you know, low slung sweat pants, cropped sweat top - very slim and well tanned, dashing about getting her goods. She passed me at speed on the way out which is when I clocked that she had used an elastic band to tighten her sweat pants at the back - a bit of the (below the) waist band pulled into a knot with the elastic band holding it secure. It struck me as the sort of thing that someone does if they don't think about how it looks to those behind them. I'm guessing she looked at herself in the mirror and thought she looked great. And she did mostly. Obviously the sweat pants were too loose but I'm not convinced this was the right fashion fix.

Reminded me of the ending of the movie Hot Pursuit when Reese Witherspoon comes to collect Riva from prison and is surprised at how good Riva looks in her prison gear. Skip to 1:38 for the reason the orange jumpsuit fits so perfectly.

let people be who they want to be - women should always seek to support other women in whatever life choices they make - big or small. If people like how they look let them be imo

@Rosa_Damascena thank you for sharing that link/article. 30-odd years ago, I worked in the cosmetic surgery industry and things have got so much worse since then. I am absolutely horrified by some of the things women now pump into their faces - the amount of filler, etc. Don’t they understand that they are creating the very thing they are trying to avoid? (Wrinkles, etc.). Of course, pumping a face full of fillers means that you’re creating a permanent clientele, since they have to return to have it done over and over again.

Back then, we’d turn people away if they asked for something too extreme or disfiguring. No facelifts on 20 year olds. Even patients for collagen injections were carefully vetted - there is a risk of scaring, so we’d only do them if the benefits outweighed the risks. (Mind you, the surgeons I worked with all had day jobs in the NHS, so had standards to uphold.)

Thank you all for your contributions to my thread. I have been doing extra hours at work, It is only a temporary arrangement . I will be working these hours until the end of July .

It was my birthday yesterday I was 62. I would never dream of having any kind of plastic surgery, I would like to grow old gracefully or disgracefully . But what I wear in my 60's is my choice. I have lost over 2 stones in weight

On to clothes for events. My wedding nearly 26 years ago , was not an expensive affair, we were an older couple , and paid for our own wedding . We are still married (happily) today.

I think it puts pressure if the wedding is abroad . On my hubby's side of the family their have been two invites to such weddings, some years back now. We sent apologies for both ( although I did say to hubby he could go on his own , if he wanted too,)

When my daughter got married nearly 4 years ago, she came and help me choose an out fit . I managed to get the dress in a sale at a well known dress shop. I could use the dress for another event .

So my treat to myself at the weekend were to have my nails done . I went for biab nails. Not acrylic nails. They strengthen your nails . I love them , Will keep up with this beauty treat.

As I get older I am trying to only buy Clean beauty products. I use an app called yuka. It is amazing what ingredients are put into cosmetics which are not good for the users.
