I think destination weddings are actually a strategic decision by the couple to weed out those that they don't actually want to be there. So all of the outer circle - particularly the elders - won't feature.
We've been invited to a family wedding in the early summer, I have politely declined. The dress code is pastel, and my Dad was making a vehement case for not adhering to it, indicating that it is just a suggestion. He relaxed a bit when I clarified that it was primarily for ladies, he wasn't required to wear a baby blue suit, a standard lounge suit with a pastel shirt and suitably smart tie will be juist fine.

Shame my OH wasn't invited. He loves a good excuse to wear the baby blue linen suit!! Likely with a pale pink shirt and a soft lime green tie.

Hope that your shifts at work went ok this week @I_Love_comps.
Opening the curtains to sunshine on a morning is a great way to start the day. Our garden borders have had a bit of a spruce up this week, and we managed to get out for a walk in a local forest. It feels good to be enjoying outside activities once again and to be able to sit in the garden with a cuppa.
Wishing everyone a good weekend, whatever you are doing.

last load of washing out on the line - assuming the OH hasn't hidden some somewhere (i.e. on his chair in the bedroom). He did mention when we were hanging stuff up there was only one of his socks in the wash and that he knew that the other had been dropped on the stairs the other day. Not sure where he has put that….
now we just need to start putting away all the clean stuff. OH has said he wants to get rid of a number of his tshirts. he'd bought a few a couple of years back that were really badly made. They went from looking like a normal 3X size to something which would accommodate someone with a 60+ inch waist who wanted to wear a crop top. Really not a good look and not sure why he's kept them all this time.
meanwhile I'm considering returning a pair of walking trousers I bought before our holiday that didn't get worn. They were a good fit when purchased but I have lost several pounds since then (thank you covid) so assuming I can keep that off they will likely now be too big.

Thank you for the posts re: the weddings & outfits. I was cautious about colour and themes, but that was largely because I get bridezilla reels on my FB account and thought it was a “thing”. It seems that mostly the “problem” is from the US, and has been largely unnoticed here - certainly by people I know. There’s a bit of a nod to not wearing a long white gown as a guest but other than that. I’ve had a quick word with both brides who also had never heard of the idea (considering colours) and thought it laughable. My friend is taking me shopping next week to try out shapes and cuts of dresses on me, she is as much of a keen chazza shopper as I am so we may end up with mainstream or chazza lucky finds, we will look at trouser options as well. Thank you for responses, I know it looks like a bit of a swerve from ”Thrifty at 60” but my main problem was one that I have because of changed body shape over 60 rendering my selection of “posh frocks” useless, and my changed comfort needs across a day event needing considering with clothing. I’m also only in a position of potentially spending money on a rarely used outfit because of a lifetime of thrift and now feel free to shop economy or first class according to what I find. We’re turning the trip abroad into a bit of an exploring holiday - it’s not a destination wedding (we don’t know anybody who does that kind of thing, only friends whose children have moved abroad) it’s because it’s the homeland of one of the couple.

Be grateful its not an Indian wedding - attended great big one this weekend and it was a very fancy affair in the West End costing hundreds of thousands. The outfits were incredible made to measure pieces with intense hand embroidery and adornments, definitely not chazzer-wear! But so expensive and I doubt I will ever re-wear the outfit. From what I heard, most ladies stored them away for decades and use them maybe twice, taking care not to re-wear them to events with the same social crowd 😕. I like to think that those of my (middle) age might have grown out of this parctice, but it still persists - not a competition I want to be part of.

My son and his wife "represented" us at a 5 day very expensive Indian family wedding at a 5 star hotel in goa , we couldn't afford to go. However the extended families were only too happen to lend them outfits that they couldn't wear, as they couldn't be seen in the same outfits twice. It was quite spectacular with elephants transporting the couples, boat procession and fireworks. The couple paid for all the guests to stay 3 nights, so my son "only" had to cover flights and 2 nights in a much cheaper hotel. It cost them getting on for a million. We went to the engagement party where all guests were expected to contribute " unboxed gifts" - money. Then would be expected to give again at the wedding. I personally think it's sad there is huge pressure to put on a show, it's also awkward as the couple would know how much you gave, in our case, not very much!!

When you say "It cost them getting on for a million" you mean the wedding party as opposed to your son and his wife?
A million can buy a lot in India, it must have been a spectacular affair. I know young people often want a day to remember and its an equally big deal for their parents, but with 1 in 2 marriages ending in divorce that money really could be better spent elsewhere.
