Yay for the Christmas lovelies, and for a fun and productive weekend
Mr PIP is also going to that do on Friday so if you get chatting to a random it might well be him!

Oh wouldn’t it be hilarious if it turned out I did bump into MrPiP! 😆 It’s always a cracking festival - I used to be involved including organising it for a few years back in the early 00’s, it’s a regular annual tradition of ours now!I don’t think the nice things will necessarily go right through the advent period jwil, we’ll see though!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

2nd - wearing a pretty pair of earrings I made years ago and can't recall the last time they saw the light of day!5 -
Mr PIP's been informed that he is allowed to reply in the affirmative if a woman sidles up to him and asks if he is indeed Mr PIP. Blimmin hope it's you 😂
I am so pleased that the jewellery advent idea is going down a treat EH and @Blackcats.
I'm sure EH, that that nice thing at least can last for 24 days, we all have so many small bits of jewellery we don't make an effort to enjoy- and if you extend it to accessory scarves, half used or unused candles, jackets taking up space that never get worn, weird beers and unusual tipples etc etc etc, there's plenty of stuff to keep the mse advent loveliness going
Maybe next year we should do a separate dedicated thread... the amount of joy that is got from something for a month that involves spending no money is so marvellous5 -
I think that's a great idea PIP. Beauty samples that have been saved up would be a good one too.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

@PennysIntoPounds the jewellery advent is such a fun idea.
EH I googled the cost of Fortnums mince pies- they 4.5 x times the price of lidls at £14.95 for 6!!!!
Hope EH you do spy Mr PIP - I really feel I know some of the MFW peeps well ..i certainly dont share annual Pension valuations with my RW friends
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Loving the jewellery advent calendars, just too lazy to dig things out. However, when we head south will endeavour to take a few sparkly bits with me

It won't be anything other than forgetfulness that means my "nice things" will probably skip a day here and there I suspect - just forgetfulness! I reckon you should do a thread on the idea next year though Pip - it's such a brilliant idea!
I can add to my list now too:
1st - Baileys, and home made mince pies
2nd - wearing a pretty pair of earrings I made years ago and can't recall the last time they saw the light of day! Also we ate the remaining mince pies!
3rd - having taken the time last night to clean a number of pieces of tarnished silver jewellery, today's earrings are a pretty pair of celtic knotwork studs!
You all know that I will be standing on Friday, glass in hand, giving random men the side-eye trying to work out if they are in fact Mr PiP, don't you! I'll probably get thrown out!
Loving the idea of using up beauty samples as part of the advent nice things as well - just taking the time to use moisturiser after a bath or shower, or applying some perfume could be another "nice thing" couldn't it!
I can also confirm that I will NOT be buying Fortnums mince pies any time soon - frankly they'd need to be gold plated for me to pay that for them!
Wordle in 5 today, MrEH got it in 4, the inconsiderate G1t!
MSE Stuff:
- Once again I have not won a fortune on the PB's - indeed, unless they are very late notifying, I haven't won a penny. ERNIE is now officially off my non-existent christmas card list.
- The start of month mortgage OP was sent across yesterday, we are now officially and thoroughly into the £102k's.
- Got the letter confirming that my FD Reg Saver matures at the end of this week so will have to keep my eyes open for the ability to open a new one, and hope that 7% rate hangs on until then!
- Current state of play since moving over to Agile for electrickery is an average unit price of 15.81p/kWh which I'm really happy with. I mean too many days like today will put a dent in that, but that can't be helped!
- I've just bagged my monthly 32 octopoints for the spin the wheel. Resigned to never seeing that wheel stop on anything more, now!
- Did a follow up study on Prolific this morning that should net me £1.50 in survey payments plus another £8.xx in bonus, all being well, although some of that will come through next year. It will be a nice boost to the coffers when it does though!
- tea last night used up most of the expected bits, but I had a fail on the half tub of soft cheese as it is not meant to be that colour and we're not eating it when it is! There was a new tub there so not the end of the world, just annoying that I took my eye off the ball with it!
- This evening's couscous will include various bits of quick to cook veg, having seen the Agile prices for later!
- In the light of the above, MrEH boiled a full kettle on the cheapest slot yesterday evening which rather reduced the cost of kettle boiling for tea & coffee first thing this morning!
- I nipped in to Al's last night looking to see if they had a couple of specific Christmas food bits - they didn't, but I did snag a 50% pack of sub-type bread rolls, and they had a final few bottles of the micellar water cleanser I use for a pretty solid price, so I grabbed one of those as well. Both from personal spends as I can't be bothered to faff about transferring 74p from the grocery account.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Unit price for the month on Agile is 12.71p/kwh here. I think this is one way the battery really pays off. My monthly average is just under 10kWh/day, but that is skewed by load shifting from oil to electricity at a certain price point (as you do with the gas). This week the average is just over 6kWh/day so far (and that does include a load of laundry and the DW ... which is full again but NOT going to be set off at today's rates! If necessary I'll unload and handwash.3
