Very strange about them and the loft situation - I was under the impression this was quite a common location for batteries. Appreciate you've made your decision pretty much, but don't forget there's export money in generation you're not using - and don't ask me how, but we're actually get 15p/kWh currently, and can charge our battery overnight (Octopus Go) for 9.5p/kWh.... which isn't encouraging Mr MV to reduce the amount of battery charging happening overnight as the days get longer! We made about £120 last year from exporting, and that was with a battery absorbing most of the power generated.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thanks for the info especially with regard to party walls, of which of course I have 2. Except for about 6 feet which goes up from about zero with a normal sloped roof. I do have a detached garage. Research definitely required. Why did I never think about looking on that part of the site. Don't answer that. The answer could well be that I don't have a clue what I am doing, it just seems such a good idea. Anyone seeing our electirity consumption would probably agree.

well done on the personal challenges - I find that committing publicly to doing something makes me much more likely to do it.you've reminded me that I need to update our money map so that I can keep track of regular savers and other money movements that I've been doing at the start of the tax year. I had a fixed term savings product mature a couple of weeks ago and I moved it elsewhere without writing a proper note of where it had gone to so I had a brief "eek, where the heck has that money gone" moment. there was a small scribbled note on my paperwork that gave me the clue I needed to find it again - phew!5
-
Morning al! Yes BC, the public aspect encouraging commitment was exactly what made me start writing them down here. As per usual, having picked up two small things I want to focus on, I've spent half the week thinking "Oh, I could add X, and Y, and Z..." and have been reminding myself that no, I need to focus on just a couple of things at a time, and once those become habit, THEN I can think of what to work on next!
So -
Small personal challenges:
- Water - yes, 2 small and 2 large cuppas, 1 litre of water - 3/5 (This ought to be 3/7 really!)
- Yoga - returned to the YWA "Move" 30 day challenge last night with Day 22. 3/5 (7)
MSE Stuff:
- Banks checked and all good
- CC now back to a "known balance" - the camera lens plus a mystery £7-odd which I haven't tracked down, but frankly will just clear from the joint account as sometimes life is too short.
- Still holding my nerve on the lens money...
- Bit the bullet yesterday and ordered bras. Went back to B0ux Av again which I would have preferred not to do really after the issue with the bra lasting 6 months and them considering that to be reasonable a few years back...but their bras ARE good, they do fit well, and I only ever buy sale stock so... Anyway, as usual I have ordered things in multiple sizes and will return what doesn't fit/suit. I also used £2 worth of loyalty points I had accrued as well - winner!
- Got an email giving me the link to claim a $20 reward from a survey I did for Ad0be the other week - and have cashed that out to the Big River site. That will get added to our general credit on there, and will likely get used for garden stuff. It's come out at a bit over £15 once it was exchanged, so that's not bad going for a survey which as I recall only took 5 or 10 minutes!
- Not going to the farmers market this month. We might regret this, but we do have a decent amount of stuff in, so should be OK.
- planning a batch cook either tomorrow, or Saturday. I think it will be ragu this time - I will be able to use the remainder of this week's mushrooms, and as usual it will get a few handfuls of red lentils to bulk it. The intention will be to produce 4 double portions (or at least 3 double and one single portion) of ragu for the freezer.
- MrEH's car will need some diesel over the weekend, and I should probably pop another £10 or so's worth into mine as well, as it's rather lower than I like to leave it standing at the moment! I will cover that from my airshow account though as the two visits to Lincoln ate through my usual budgeted tank full!
We will be popping to the pub after work this evening - beers from personal spends and we will be making use of our 50p off vouchers as well. I can see us actually using those up, this year! I am really enjoying that bit of time just sitting with no demands on my time though - I am there for an hour before MrEH arrives, which means I have time for a pint and a good read of my book - I can find a nice corner to sit myself in, OR a table upstairs by the window - and it's just a nice way to end the working week.
I think that is about all from me at the minute - financially we are now resoundingly in the "dead zone" - good, but dull.
*Edit* Yay - I have a 15% off Haloumi on my Lil's app this week - so will be stocking up a little. It is very much something I buy, and has a decent life in the fridge, so I may well well nab a few at that saving.

Well done on all the MSE activities - including the new savings account. Solar will get smaller and easier to install with time I'm sure.

Have a lovely timeThe pub was indeed a really nice way to end the working (me) and commuting (both of us) week - I had a very nice Porter last night (Southwark Potters Fields Porter) and then also from Southwark brewery, their LPA - London Pale. Also nice although slightly “hop oily” for my taste - I don’t get on well with a resinous hoppiness.Today has mostly been a game of dodge the rain. The washing which has been out since yesterday morning got wet again before we got home last night, so we left it out. We had decided we would probably bring it in mid morning but then thr forecast rain arrived early, so it stayed out again. Finally we got a window of sunshine last morning and in to lunchtime, and so when the light suddenly started dropping sharply in a very “rain incoming” way, ai dashed out and grabbed it all off the line. Within a few moments of me getting back inside with it it was hammering down, so that was a good call! Some of it was actually bone dry, and the still-slightly-damp-bits have been moved to the airer.MSE Stuff:
- Banks checked and all good
- last night’s tea involved half the remaining mushrooms and the last of the eggs - and I picked a few sorrel leaves to go in as well - such a lovely flavour and works so well with eggs!
- meal plan mostly written - enough to inform the shopping list anyway!
- shopping acquired including…
- nipped into the C0-0p while out for a walk - combined the 25p off MrEH’s paper and the 20p off milk for a decent saving on 4 pints of full fat for MrEH. Also nabbed a couple of very well priced cans of drink which are being set aside for our holiday journey up, and a pack of interesting sounding and reduced price lentil snacks which there is a very decent chance I will demolish tomorrow.- finally got my act together and got some air show accommodation booked yesterday - AirBnB for both, and reasonable prices. Probably need to get my head around what else needs booked still too.
- mince out of the freezer ready to make ragu in a while - that will see off the remainder of last weeks mushrooms and probably some of the new pack too.
- £50 credit added to my 🐙 account thanks to a friend using my referral code.- £15 diesel in my car - money transferred from airshow account as planned.
Shopping-wise I popped into Lil’s first - got my free loaf, (which I notice they are no longer referring to as any form of sourdough, although “Rye” is still in the description, so I guess they have increased the quantity so it qualifies!) some bathroom cleaner, and a pack of YS’d scones, plus 3 lots of Halloumi thanks to the 15% off coupon. Then on to T’s for the rest of it. £37.12 total including the C0-0p bits, but that also included a big box of cereal for MrEH which will last him ages, kitchen rolls and of course stocking up on that halloumi as well. The aim for today was always to mix oddments that needed doing with having a fairly laid back sort of day.
- DW has been emptied
- got the steps out and re-hooked a couple of curtain hooks that had come off the rings
- bathroom cleaned - including taking stuff off the shelf and windowsill and cleaning those areas too.
- next load of washing is on standby to go onto the line just as soon as it looks like the weather is going to allow it - we’re due another set of showers any moment though so not yet!- about to make that ragu I think. Can’t quite decide whether to use the multi-cooker or the hob though.- Want to sit down with my budget book and update a few things so we get ourselves straight again.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
